My Thoughts On Premium Swellcasts

But I guess I just want to remain untouched by any sort of feature, this and all that sort of stuff. I don't want it. I don't want it. But I guess I thought I'd address this in terms of my thoughts on the Premium Swell cast. But what has the experience been like for you with all that stuff I said that went so hard against it? I'm still curious as to what you enjoy about premium Swellcast. As a participant or as a listener

How about you?

But if it's five minutes, if it's more than five minutes because someone wants to ramble and I'm not connecting with the content almost immediately, then I have a tendency to stay away from that. And that's just me being honest. And I'm sure people feel the same way about me with certain things that I post. I've only been premium since yesterday, so I have like, little to no experience as far as the censorship aspect of it, you had touched on. No

Totally get it

You. I loved your post about how it just doesn't feel right for you to get paid for doing this work. And I'm actually a psychotherapist. I've got my Masters, I have decades of experience. I'm really good at healing people's psyches. But I hated being paid for that, even though I highly qualified side. And I don't think there's anything wrong with getting paid for it. In fact, I think that it's necessary

Every anchor used to say that. They say the podcasts that last the most have a niche, and you got to talk about one subject for the rest of your life. You got to talk about this one thing and that one thing only and et cetera. And I suck at that. I can't do that. That's why I'm a conversationalist. I talk about talking. So I guess that could be a niche to some degree. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be too crazy

In the last decade or so, we've seen the monetization focus, shall we say, where everyone that has a service or content that they want to share is jumping on some sort of monetization bandwagon. And that's okay because we live in a capitalist country and we create businesses and offer services in order to thrive. And in order to thrive, we have to earn something for our expertise, shall we say

It's all about popularity, not so much about your skill or what you can do, it's more about how can you network and get more people to listen to you, which is I guess that's just never been my strong suit. But anyway, thanks for the kind, kind words. And yeah, may we continue to use the app and enjoy it

@RunCoachRay

Hey, Ray. Thanks for sharing. And you obviously have experience not just here on Swell, but also on Anchor and Spotify and et cetera in terms of having a monetization option there. And Twitter and Instagram, Facebook, all of them have it now, right? Not just audio anymore, it's literally any platform they have some means of and I think some people are more acclimated for that approach and I think I'm just not one of those people

That said, since you're a hip hop artist, if you ever have any interest in collaborating with me, I'd love to make, like, hip hops for my flying spaghetti monster, so well, like, hymnal hip hops or something. Anyway, just a thought, throwing it out there. Thank you so much for all your content and your wonderful ideas. And if you have a better idea for how to monetize, I'm all on board for that. Bye

But folks that I'm marketing who might want to pay me is a totally different market. And hey, who knows how that goes personally and not professionally because this is not my gig when it comes to developing an app, having users download your app, clearly the people at Swell know what they're doing and I don't

And you seem to be. So I actually had some ideas of a spaghetti monster of faith that I could do something with. So that sounds like of interest to me. And yeah, we'll definitely have to connect. I would like to hear your story. And as far as Monetization, I think I'm more of like a donation guy. I think donations mean more to me than like a monthly subscription or some bullshit like that

I know maybe some people can feel I have a niche, but it doesn't feel that way to me, if that makes any sense. It doesn't feel like a niche to me. It's like I can roll out of bed and just think of a topic and talk about it. Whereas it's not like I'm thinking of something that's on brand with my image and is about what I want to talk about in relation to what my Swell cast is about

They just do it because it helps people. I mean, I got a friend of mine who's been doing it for years on the Web, and she does it because her heart's into it, and free information is free information. And that's why sometimes I just feel that's the way it should be. It keeps you grounded and it keeps it organic at the same time. So anyway, sorry for my rant. And I'm still keeping it under five minutes

You almost relished, yet annoyingly looked forward to when your favorite YouTuber is like today's YouTube is sponsored by blah, blah blah, which indicates that they have achieved a certain modicum of success to which they can now receive you. Once you get the YouTube adverts you start rolling in bigger bucks and then it becomes a process of choosing carefully who you receive ad placement from as it can damage your reputation as some of the better help
