Know Thyself: A How-To Guide Part 1

I love this poem because to me, what Dickinson is talking about, simplicity is not only the key to finding happiness, but finding ourselves. And perhaps that is what creates happiness at all anyway, right? Without knowing who we are, what we are, what we want, how do we know how to find happiness to begin with? What I love about what she says here, she's talking about this little stone is just kind of rambling down the road, doing its thing

I take a look at the poem Simplicity by Emily Dickenson and discuss how simplicity can unlock the path to Self. Read more on my blog.

And I learned the answers to those questions because I asked them and I sought out the answers. I would not have been able to do that if I had all these external distractions, if I was able to just hop on the Internet. Social media was not a big thing at that point still, luckily, because that's like the easiest distraction of all for me. But I didn't have access to any of these external distractions from exploring who I am

I discovered so much of my unpacking and simplicity during COVID as someone who tended my own garden, and being in that slow process gave me such rootedness pun intended. And I continue to go outside and look at the garden excuse me, and look at the world around me and be grateful for having the contrast all the time, because I'm not a particularly gardeny person. I like city, I like culture, I like energy, I love a little chaos

When I come home and it's gardening season and I get out there and I can trim my flowers and I love putting together a nice bouquet of wild flowers or stalking a bee as it moves from flower to flower and just, like, watching it, watching how it moves or when it's butterfly season, man, it's like taking me back to that right now. It's just so beautiful. Yeah, the simplicity of it, I love it

It requires you effectively resisting all the surrounds, let's call it thrown your way by the ninjas in your head. It requires you jumping over obstacles. It requires you swimming through the ocean of the subconscious and requires, I think, above all else, it requires time. Because a 15 year old saying I know myself versus a 15 year old saying I know myself, two very different thing. Maybe what I said is ageist, but per my experience, it is age
