Unhelpful Thinking Styles

article image placeholderUploaded by @ThriveLauraMonk
All or nothing thinking can be challenged by avoiding binary thinking and seeking shades of gray. So instead of thinking too far to the right or too far to the left, you want to try to find more middle ground and seek for shades of gray on the subject matter. The next one is cognitive dissonance. Only paying attention to certain types of evidence. Evidence that supports your narrative regardless of what information or what new information has been presented to you

You continuing with should and must statements. This looks like I should, he must or they ought to. It might sound like I should get good grades or my house must be clean or he ought to understand. Challenge this by asking if it's really true and whose truth is it? Is this a truth that you adopted from your parents or your caregivers and you never questioned it? And is it a belief that you have invented in your own mind and ask if it's really true

Boundaries are okay and control is exhausting. Internal, you always have a choice. Even if you don't like the choices, it is still ultimately up to you. Take back your personal power. The next one is the fairness fallacy. Thinking that everything needs to be fair and even all the time. This might look like you did it to me, so I'm going to do it to you. Or I must get even with him. Or that's not fair

You. Hello. I just wanted to add four more onto this list, and the one I wanted to add most definitely is blaming and shaming. This is thinking that you are never wrong and always blaming others. Shaming for control. Usually this might look like this is all your fault. You better shape up or else you are so terrible that I had to blink
