Happiness is Work

article image placeholderUploaded by @ThriveLauraMonk
And we have to work at better feeling thoughts because our brain is going to automatically default to the worst possible scenario or the danger or threat in our environment. So we have to actually think about what would make me feel better in this moment or what could I say to myself that would cause me to feel better in this moment. Because naturally we tend to only notice the negative and have what if thoughts and worries and regrets and things like that

🌱 Laura talks about how happiness is something we work at. #Swell #MentalHealth #Happiness.

👉🏻 Part 2

Your brain is practicing, or has practiced and made the habit of defaulting to negative thinking styles because neurons in your brain that fire together will wire together. So that habitual thinking is more solidified in the brain. So it's going to really feel like work to be different than that and to learn new habits. Just like any habit feels really hard at first until it becomes a new habit. So the thinking in the brain is going to be essentially the same exact way

Hey, Laura. What a beautiful notion towards happiness. It does take effort. It does take work. It takes remembering. The fact that you referenced Dobbs Law was so cool. I recognized it immediately. Neurons that fire together, wire together. It's habitual, right? We all come from different childhood upbringings and things that we can't necessarily, quote, unquote, control, especially if we're not given the tools

It's the remembering that's like an important word for me, that it's the remembering that there is goodness inside of us and that we have the capability to look for goodness in our day, in our inner actions, and in just being observant, finding the beauty around us. And that does take some cultivating, but that's the wonderful thing about us human beings, any one of us can do it
