And so when we were freed in 1865, we were freed with nothing. There was a reconstruction period to where, like, there was a promise of the 40 acres and a mule, and some people actually got a little bit of that, but folks got all up in arms about it, and that was snatched away

You know, generations are still suffering from this, and I think that's why when we have the month to focus on it, it's a good thing.
