The Problem with the Lensa AI trend!

article image placeholderExperts Weigh Whether AI-Generated Apps Steal from Artists
So I want to read this from an article just so everybody understands exactly what's going on here. One of the main complaints from artists is that the Magic Avatar feature utilizes stable diffusion's open source model for generative images, which is trained on an enormous large scale artificial intelligence open network data set that contains URLs to billions of images across the web alongside descriptive tags

But that's not the spirit of innovation, right? When we find something out, we want to get it out there and have everyone take advantage of it. In this case, they didn't think about how many thousands of artists might be left out of this equation. I think it's up to the individual to say, no, there's too much gray area here. I'm not going to take advantage of this

But I definitely wouldn't have jumped on board, not even for the fun of seeing my face depicted in different styles, if I had known that the artists doing that were not being compensated or that work might potentially be. Stolen or taken away from undeserving artist who's putting their heart and their soul into their stuff that they are putting out there just the same as I do with my poetry and with the scenes that I do artistically

And sometimes, like what happened with you, we take part in the consumption of something without knowing exactly where it comes from. And other times we just do it even when we know where it comes from. We all know how a burger is made, but aren't burgers tasty? You know what I mean? And I just think it's interesting because we really kind of have to pick and choose our battles at this point

But I love that you are putting information out there and that you're letting people know and that you're bringing about awareness. So once again, thank you for that and I'm loving the conversation

Spread the word. #lensa #aiart

So what do you do? What can a person do? I guess understanding as a first step what Lenza does and how it uses material from artists is a big first step. But that puts the onus on end users that use the app to understand that and make a decision to stop using it. But then, who knows? Maybe an artist whose material has been used that has deep pockets might just fight back. As these apps proliferate, there may just be, who knows, class action lawsuits

We're not the ones that are making money off of it. We're simply people that find out about something, something cool or new and want to be a part of it. I think that in the case of Lenza, one of the things that I've seen that is certainly important is when somebody does find out about its source, where the content comes from, that they just simply draw attention to it
