Let’s Talk: Misinformtion

article image placeholderUploaded by @TalkswithDoll
And I believe it's our due diligence to investigate and maintain ourselves well informed because we cannot be ignorant and just go by what people tell us. We need to do our work and make sure that we're not being fed a false narrative. So I stumbled upon this article and I see it all the time on social media. Every tabloid outlet and even like the most biggest news stations be doing this and people go into shambles because they believe word for word without them actually fact checking

I talk misinformtion to be valuable. I just talked about this on Twitter today. And for me, misinformation can tell me a lot about an individual as well as a culture in terms of their beliefs. Because although the information may be inaccurate, their beliefs, however, coincide with the spreading of this quote unquote fake news. And I find the stronger the belief, the more likely one is to spread the fake news. And I don't even think it's really misinformation. It's disinformation

If you think about Sinclair, which is a huge media conglomerate who sends scripts out to 72% of all local stations every day to talk about the news that they want to have front and center, one might say that's misinformation. Or maybe it's information that's just biased. Because that's the agenda this large conglomerate wants to push out into the households. I think sometimes you can't stop the behavior of bad actors, whether they're creating fake news, as you say, or propagating misinformation

General ed does not have anything that comes close to that. And unfortunately, when you lack those critical thinking skills, it leads to you being manipulated by people who have much better critical thinking skills than you and know how to take advantage of folks that are lacking in that in terms of the tool for their arsenal, that they need to maybe debunk something or determine whether something is misinformation or not. And because we have not really meaningfully addressed this problem that we have as a country, misinformation just runs wild
