Disability isnt spoken about enough

article image placeholderUploaded by @sproj003
There's just so much that isn't spoken about, things that I haven't mentioned, that still links to disability that we need to bring up and just find out to me, because I don't know about although I'm disabled and have a visible disability, there's a lot to be said, but I don't know

There's so much to talk about #disability #DisabilityPrideMonth

I think each person has their own individual journey with their own disability, so it's very hard to make generic truths about things. But the overarching theme you're bringing up is, let's have these conversations. Let's make more people aware of how different people are inside a vertical of one specific disability, let alone the entire community, because when you're lumped together, it just sucks

I think this is a great platform, and I think you're going to really enjoy it and find a home here with lots of different perspectives and voices. I definitely related to everything that Deborah was sharing about. She's also a great person to connect with here around all kinds of topics, but definitely around disability. She's a very understanding, compassionate person. So, yeah, I'm going to stick. Stay tuned to what you have shared on Swell and hear what others have to say

I really appreciate you creating an account here and coming out and being a voice and speaking so heartfelt about what it means to you. And I do look forward to hearing more of what you have to say, whether it's related to disability awareness or if it is more in the realms of a life, a day in your life, or just celebrating you or whatever this beautiful thing about this platform is. It's so endless and so welcoming

So I live in London, in the UK, and I say fortunate in that I have a visible disability and it's a very obvious disability. People can't really fake claim me. You look at me and the first thing you see pretty much is my disability, which, as I say, in a way I'm thankful for because I don't have to deal with people saying, oh, you don't need support or you're just faking it or whatever else people say that's really harmful

Just remind me, though, that not everyone has the ability of a privilege to do that. I don't know where you're based, but yeah, sometimes it can be just so hard for people to get the support they need. It's like a constant battle. So I just wanted to point that out. And as I said, I think you get the support you want
