Q&A Feature: What I've learned. What have you learned?

article image placeholderUploaded by @SeekingPlumb
So many interesting possibilities here. Okay, so what have you learned about this specific feature? Things that you do like, things that you don't like, things that you wish were a little different, things that you absolutely love and don't want anything changed about it? Tell me, tell me, what are your thoughts?

And my mind is already kind of working on like, oh my God, what can we do? But I do think it would be cool if there was some delineation in those questions that separated them out, because I think right now when I ask a question and someone else comes in and answers it, then if there's three questions, all of those questions and all of those answers right now visually blend in together
@SeekingPlumb

@RensLens @DBPardes @sudha

I can always forget which word I want there taken away. It feels I don't like it. I don't like it. How many more times can I say that? In different ways. But with respect to clarity of the visual presentation, I did mention to Deb and another reply and another Swell. If if it can't be indented, the replies maybe like highlighting the question itself with a light blue outline like they do a reply that's being currently played where it's yellow

@RensLens

And then multiply that by number of people. And my notifications on my screen that is muted is muted, but it's essentially scrolling. Now I'm getting notification after notification after notification, and now I'm like, do I have to change my notification settings? I don't know. It's a little la

So you're correct in saying if you're doing a single interview with somebody and you want to front load with questions and then someone else comes in, they indeed have the option of asking a question as well. And you as the host, of course, can say that I don't like that question. But you also could do invite only. And if you're really doing a very strict interview, you still use the format, but nobody can ask questions except the author themselves
@SeekingPlumb

@DBPardes

And secondly, cure is this one is more concerning to me than any, I think, in the original Swell, when you were describing how we could customize it so that certain questions were limited to certain people, right. By tagging them, if I'm understanding correctly. My concern arises when if anybody can hit that ask button in the top right corner

So play around with it if you want. AMA stands for ask me Anything. So if I say to everybody, hey, Michelle's having an AMA on Friday, but let's prepare. Let's ask questions for her. That's how we do it. Thank you for pushing on top of all this

You can keep asking questions within a post. I see the potential of the feature, but I do think we all going to need a tutorial. We're going to need a little training because some things are not as intuitive as it seems like it should be
@SeekingPlumb

@FarikaB_Redux

So I think I found the swell that you're referencing. Was it the reply that Auntie Ange gave you? And if so, it's working as it's supposed to, apparently, and it had nothing to do with the fact that she included your name there

@SeekingPlumb

Hi. That is exactly what happened. It was Auntie Ange. So you picked up and found the correct one? Yes. I did not see anything attached, and it was just her adding me. I'm going to try what she said, because you said it's it's that's how it's supposed to be. But I guess it was just odd because she she was the only one that added me
@SeekingPlumb

@FarikaB_Redux

And both of those, you'll see different ways of how it's played out of when someone hit the ask button in the top right corner, when they hit the answer button on a specific question, and then when Duan and I, for example, did the workaround. Yeah, I don't know if that will help any, but I'm throwing it out there just in case. And if you learn anything, too, please, by all means, bring it back

I think that's kind of cool because then you'll get the notification as though you've been invited to a conversation, even if it is one that you initiated. But it also keeps the flow of the conversation going. So I can see why that's a benefit. But yeah, that's something I just noticed recently as well
@SeekingPlumb

@FarikaB_Redux

Okay, question for you. Prior to the update, whenever someone would tag us, whether it's in our own swell or not, didn't didn't the language say you've been invited? I I did find it sometimes off putting. At times when it was my own thinking. What? And then I'd be like, oh, yeah. Or am I misremembering?

Maybe we need to look at titling it differently. Again, we always go back and forth on too long, too short, stuff like that. But the other thing I don't know if you know, there is a small right arrow at the end of where it says your invitations and if you tap on it, you can actually delete the ones that are just mentions if they bug you. So you can clean up that list whenever you want to. But you're right
@SeekingPlumb

@Chozn60plus

Well, take your time. Whatever you need. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or anyone else. And I'm sure that anybody would be willing to help out in any way that we can
@SeekingPlumb

@sudha

Ah, thank you, Suda. I like the invitations. It sort of gives it a different feel. It's more inviting, if you will, and really, our notifications show us which ones are mentions and which ones are invites. So, yeah, I think it's good. Oh, a question for you

Christina. It has always been seven days only. So from the time the invitations strip came on the homepage, it only shows you invitations up to seven days. So, yes, it's automatically purged after a week. So you're only seeing invitations that are about a week old. Let me know if that's not what you're seeing, because then that's a bug. But you should only be seeing invitations there for up to a week
@SeekingPlumb

@sudha

Thank you. I just opened the iOS app, which I hadn't done it in quite some time. And you're absolutely right. It's working exactly the way that you described it. Didn't used to look like that, so I don't know if that's changed or what, but I'm grateful. Thank you so much

And I won't deny there was a small window of intimidation when I seen your post with the three questions and the reply option. And I said, you know what? I'm going to put on my flotation device and I'm going to go jump in the deep end also, and I'm going to comment on this swell and try it out. And I actually liked it. I liked the way how you organized it

Thanks, JL. I figured, you know, to some extent, I've got maybe the ins and outs of how the app was before, but it's always fun to sort of navigate something new. And being able to do that together, you know, we're all better for it. We can all sort of learn together and I don't know, that's fun. To me, that's fun. It's also bringing me back to the days of when I used to teach computers
