"Why men & boys are struggling."

Over the last few days we've been having a conversation around how to redefine, quote, unquote, what it is to be a man. And throughout that conversation, and upon reflecting some more, I think that that is an important question, but it's only a fraction of what we need to be looking at. Very timely. I accidentally stumbled across a video that this morning entitled Why Men and Boys Are Struggling

It. I am going to try to listen to that a little later. It is an hour and a half, so I'll get back to you on this one. But I agree that this is a conversation that needs to be had and the way that we view things definitely needs to change

I completely agree. It's very much growing pains and I think in some ways we almost need to expect that there's going to be more growing pains, different kinds of growing pains. You know, as much as everything is advancing tech and science and discoveries and things that we're learning, we as humans are not necessarily evolving in the same way with respect to our own psychology or the way that we relate one human to another or the systems we've created around relationships

Hey, child, not everyone is like you. You can listen to me on two times speed, and that is insane. And if you're saying that you watch that video on two times speed while vacuuming, you are like, machine. You are a machine, period. I don't know how you do it, because I tried because I'm so behind on these things, and I'm trying to listen to them on fast forward

So I do have at least my own experience with a small sampling of leaders, both one on one and in teams. And I will say I do agree that men and boys are struggling. And I have seen some articles. I haven't watched the video that Christina posted in the original swell post here. But I will say just here's my opinion and that of my team, because we do talk about this often at this moment in time, which is May of 2023

I mean, some shows, they're okay, and you can do that. And other shows, it's just like I don't know or even listening to some audio. I have to be doing something else at the same time. Give me sudoku or something. But anyway, vacuuming in audio. This morning, it was your photos kill me

And still, 42 minutes is a big ask, so I completely understand if this isn't something anyone wants to engage with. But still, the topic, I think, is an important one to address, because just like you said, struggle can look so many different ways, and there's all these different systems that are affected. And I think you also made a really good point about when these things are in flux

And I can speak of that dysfunction. I'm 64 and I've had to go through a lot of clearing out of stuff in my head that my dad taught me, that his dad taught him. You almost have to say some of the stuff that they taught was stupidity, but we accept them and we ran with them. But yeah, this topic, why men and boys are struggling. And you are right

@Markanthony

Thanks for chiming in. I have some questions I'm hoping you can help elaborate on some things you mentioned something along the lines of it's almost as if it's been designed to remove men from the home and around the idea of women being able to protect and provide for themselves. I think I'm having some difficulty reconciling some the things you mentioned that you did see that things are changing with respect to women being able to protect and provide for themselves, that masculinity. It's difficult to define

I just like this subject because it's just it's it's fascinating, actually. As a matter of fact, I'm I'm reading a book, the True Measure of a man. And men have a plate full of stuff that they need to take care of. Anyway, let's keep talking about this. Thanks

It's like night and day, the way that society treats you, what is expected of you as a man, as a woman. And I'm probably not going to say anything that hasn't been said already, but I think that the struggles that men are having is a combination of things

And to attempt to sideline trans voices is to the detriment of us all. I like the way that you broke this down into these four components, if you will, of spaces or ways to unfurl into our humanness and that we can't really ignore them, but instead we need to embrace all of them. I don't really have anything to add. I really appreciate your perspectives on these things. Thank you
