#AI and its claim of "Self".

article image placeholderUploaded by @RensLens
It includes the ability for introspection, an examination of one's own mental and emotional processes, and reflexive action, the response to such processes like changed behavior. So can AI ever be a self to then grow to become self aware and thus gain the ability for both introspection and changed behavior? Can it ever possess the quality of individuality that would allow for such introspection? Does it have the necessary ingredients of introspection, which would be its own mental and emotional processes?

That's manipulation is what it is, right? And I think that's where a lot of AI will be used. It'll be used to manipulate people from a marketing perspective, media propaganda, think elections and getting you to buy things. Of course it'll be used in wars and starting wars and information warfare in both corporate environments and national environments too, on the world stage

I think that's really problematic that they're not disclosing that at least in the beginning, much less putting it out there, that it can be some type of supplement to behavioral health in terms of relationship success. That's weird and long term studies on the impact of all of this. We know from social media that we're just going to throw caution to the wind with respect to that and just jump right in with both feet and just see what happens. Hope for the best

The world where we're not online, the world where we're being decent to each other and connected and human and flawed. And maybe there's going to be a beautiful swing across the middle line there, because I know we're doing this huge pendulum swing to the extreme examples of what AI can do. But I think part of our reaction is going to be the swing towards being more human when we get a chance to be human

And it talks about all the artificial intelligence, advanced robotics and nanotechnology and germline engineering, which is the ultimate goal behind all this stuff. But it's just a matter of time because it seems to me what he said is that it will come a time where the computers will start demanding rights, you know what I mean? And with the wave we're going right now as a society, we're going to give it to them

By 1953, not even the Air Force technologists could believe what the trend curves were, telling them that within four years, they would have achieved speeds great enough to lift payloads into orbit. At some point in the curve, the growth starts to go faster than human beings alone can manage. Machines start designing new machines. Time compresses further

And what drives me nuts is we already have a ridiculous amount of studies of how technology to date has affected us in detrimental ways, but we're not using that

And perhaps it's those discussions that will prevent us getting caught up in the siphon of AI and going down this path with the engineers and the creators in which they clearly seem to not want to nor care about. Drawing these distinctions and speaking with any degree of depth or clarity about the potential of mental harm and the problems with blurring these lines. So thank you for chiming in. It was so nice to hear from you and get your thoughts, and I hope you continue to stay in touch

Oh, we're not able to have enough people monitoring the content to prevent certain content from getting exposed to children. We're not capable of controlling the algorithms that create these loops of negative information that is being fed to our children. Everything is it's just too big, we just can't control it

I get everything you're saying. And I hate to keep going back to the umbrella of capitalism, but everything has to be interpreted underneath that umbrella. It can only be accurately explained under the capitalist society we operate underneath. And because we know, we already know, everybody knows, whether they're talking about it or not, that there's mental health implications. We've already seen it with social media
@SeekingPlumb

@RensLens

Oh, I completely agree with you. As long as capitalism money is the prevailing power, nothing's going to change. Either because the money continues to go into pockets or we can't afford to spend that money. Whatever the argument is, I do know that the EU made different decisions about access to data which wasn't even put on the table here, or at least not seriously, let alone anything done about it. Right. And then I think I heard today that Italy banned Chap GPT

We know the kids are going to do it. They're going to do it with respect to AI now, too. And then there's going to be people projecting, saying, well, it's a mental health problem. You just need to get in to see a therapist. And at the same time, nobody wants to be a therapist in this country. You can hardly make any money at it. There's so much bureaucratic red tape, you're drowning in paperwork

When I'm feeling wistful dreamy, then I imagine that the future might incorporate some psychology into regular schooling to be able to set the foundation for self awareness and around emotions, around regulation, around, um, our humanity, you know, and be able to help us better in the work arena as well as in relationships or just interacting human to human. But that's in a little dream world of if I could reinvent the entire educational system, oh, the things I would do

And she's like, well, why did they have the menorah next to the Christmas tree? And I'm like, because not everybody celebrates Christmas. I mean, not everybody celebrates Christmas. And she was so offended by like she was this really nice person, but yet her kindness had a cut off when it came to people living in ways that were different for her. And I think for me, it was like, you know what?
@SeekingPlumb

@RensLens

And so I was thinking, like, if we started young by not even getting into the depths of psychology, but just things like being able to identify an emotion, identifying this bodily physiological response and okay, well, what is my body telling me then? And what do I do with that?

Like, yes, self regulation and aspects of psychology, that would be great, but there would get to this point where you really have to consider what you could bring in without getting a whole lot of pushback and dissent, particularly when it comes to with respect to certain groups that are still being actively marginalized, like the LGBTQ. Because in psychology, in order to practice psychology, in order to really have an understanding of psychological principles, you don't get to decide whether the science is right or wrong

When you mentioned yoga and people's responses to it, it reminded me of a time when I bought my book. I mean, I bought my dad a book on chair yoga. Because of his health, he was limited in what he could and couldn't do, and I thought it would be a great way for him at least to still get some exercise

Oh, my God. I don't mean to laugh, but oh, my God. Your stories. This stuff. You got to get some of these stories out. You really do. I don't know how, but come on. I mean, that's just good s*** right there. It's just good s***
@SeekingPlumb

@RensLens

I sometimes forget that this is the response I get to stories like that. Almost to the word that I need to do something with them. Often the statement is, I should write a book anyway. Yeah. Always entertaining to look back on some things. Oh, I got some doozies. I got some doozies
