Sandhill Cranes on my run

article image placeholderUploaded by @Phil
I'm sending a picture along with this. They have a little bit of red on top of their head. They are probably, I don't know, maybe 4ft tall, just really cool birds. And just that noise that they're making is just amazing, really loud. I had to share that

Hey, Phil, thanks for sharing. I love animals and nature and everything like that. I've never seen a crane that close and personal, so that was a good photo. Really gave the idea of how big they are. And I'm glad you weren't attacked or anything. The sounds were very calming to me. It sounded really cool. So, yeah, thanks for sharing

Bill, so glad you shared this. And now that I've heard them, I got to see these birds. They are not local, but they do migrate through California. And if I get up really early and drive to the South Central Valley, October through February, there are some reserves where people congregate. They actually have a crane festival in November when the cranes return from their it's funny. I've read about cranes and this crane festival for years, seen YouTube videos

Yeah. D and Tim, this was something that was a treat. It really was. Dee, I wasn't too scared about them attacking me. They're very docile and very shy birds, and for me to even be this close to them was really something special and really rare. And I was so glad that I have my phone with me and just started recording because the way they were squawking, I really hadn't heard it up that close before
