My College Life Rant

article image placeholderUploaded by @Noalily
None of my grades matter to me because it's all like fake, and my real life is back in La. And so while I'm here in Berkeley, I feel kind of like I'm at a summer camp, but also, I don't know, I don't really know how to mesh my two very different lives together, because in La, I feel like I'm someone who works out and is super into mental health and fitness

Excuse the tangent but please advise meee!!

I struggled with something similar. Here is my advice

I was a teacher for six years, and you get off at three when the students leave. But then you have papers to grade. You have emails to answer phone calls to take. It doesn't stop there. And even other jobs I had look at production. I was in production for a little while, and those are 1012 hours days with very little break. It's just a part of the grind. And I think that that's what you're feeling right now

Just say no

Actually, it's a really good time to just get your degree and learn and just take a lot of time for yourself when you're not doing that and decide if something's extracurricular, make sure it's something that's serving you and feeling good. Just really say no, say no to stuff and know that it's not rejecting a new part of you that you're not going to grow. It's just taken care of the future. You that will be happier. So that's my thought

I thought I would all hop on here and reply to what you said because when you posted that, I was like, Let me see that because I last night I couldn't really sleep much and I had just had an nightmare and I was really stressed out with midterms this week and just woke up with an overload of felt like, I don't know if I have as much time in the day to get as much done because it's like we are constantly working and you are like, from the moment you wake up, you're constantly thinking about school and to balance that with the relationships you have built here at school, including myself, like you're in the sorority and swell and reminding yourself of all the responsibilities you have

I guess so that's kind of my advice to you. I hope that it helps and you can always talk to me. You can always talk on swell about just the transition because it could be a difficult one. But thank you so much for sharing this conversation, you rock

Hey, everyone. I just wanted to hop on here and thank you all for responding. Everything that you've all said really just means a lot to me and has helped me to kind of get out of this rut. And I definitely was in a bad mood to say the least yesterday, so this was very helpful, and I appreciate you all just coming on here and giving me some advice, so thank you. Bye

@Noalily life as practice

But I love that you pointed out in some ways, you're questioning, like, what does this even matter? And I think that's important because it wasn't until I got to grad school that I realized like, oh, yeah, grades are made up, and a lot of it is arbitrary, and a lot of it is subjective. So what is it that I'm really doing here? What is it that I value? And what do I want to get out of this experience?
