Nail biting, let’s talk…

article image placeholderUploaded by @lwatsonjr
Do you think that this is a behavioral misnomer where we understand it as a tick that someone develops in early adolescence and they carry it on with them through their lives and they use it as sort of a mechanism to deal with boredom, to deal with impatience, nervousness, and in some cases, like myself, deep concentration

Are you a nail biter? If not, what are your impressions of those who do? Is this a behavioral misnomer?

Think of all the places you touch and you're going to put that in your mouth. And that was life changing for me at that point, especially when she got into all of the different infections and illnesses I could possibly get from biting my nails. And so I stopped. But still, even after I stopped, my nails just they didn't grow like that. They just didn't grow. They were soft

And I've been able to invest in toys and tools that can better redirect that sort of need. And I wish that there was more knowledge spread about things like brain wiring and why humans do the things we do without the facets of shame and guilt wrapped up in them because there's so much more value in that

🤔

These are one of those posts that are so specific that it triggers a memory and I used to be a nail biter. I used to be a heavy nail biter at one point and I used to eat the callus off my hands too. I would nibble that not like resulting in blood or anything but yeah and recently you know what that's called? It's like an infection with the hangnail infection. It's like peculiar. I forget the name of it but you get the little pus and the inflammation

@FryedOreo @SeekingPlumb: hit the nail…

I wanted to yell back at her, Shut the h*** up. But I didn't. I just sort of knew, like, man, this is such an old familiar song where my mom would sort of nip at my hand every time I did it. And in professional environments, people would sort of gesture to me like, take your hand down, take your hand down. When I'm giving presentations and stuff like that
