I really love this. I agree that there is something about holding an instrument in your hand and handwriting whatever you're creating. But I love the way you've taken that pencil and turned it into such a creative tool. I love the part where you talk about holding the trees so tenderly in your hand and putting down roots while you're reaching for the sky. And then the way you ended it with mistakes can be undone. Perfection

But more doodling than writing. I associate pen and paper with productivity and creativity and the two aren't always braided together so neatly in one's mind. But you're really reminding me that I still have unfinished business around the pencil and the pen and the hidden pleasure and all of that if you allow it to be a more of a meander than a direction. So thank you for bringing this to mind for me

Hey, Deborah. Thanks for listening. I can relate. I use the notes app furiously when I'm writing poetry or getting what I call downloads. But when it comes to journaling, I really love the leisurely pace of pencil to paper. I miss it when I don't do it for a while. So I actually found a handmade journal and it has been kind of sitting by my bedside. Enticing me. It has handmade paper
