The show's core philosophy was challenged as well, because reading Rainbow prominently featured published books throughout each episode, and licensing those books to be read aloud on the air was expensive. It was an expensive move that produced station WNED, and they decided not to make that expensive move anymore. So prior to the cancellation, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the United States Department of Education provided funds for the production of Reading Rainbow and a number of other PBS children's series throughout the early 2000s

This was absolutely wonderful to hear. I have never thought to delve into it that much. But what I can tell you is I loved hearing about this. And, girl, I love me some of our burton. Like, you know, I was. It was a long time before I realized that that was a dude from Star Trek. It was long time. But the reading ring, though, taught me, oh, my gosh. How to read, how to put words together

And then when he was in Star Trek, I was like, okay, Jordy, now I love you because now you didn't went into the genre that I can understand and I desire. So now you're in Star Trek, which is my world. So, yeah, now I absolutely love you. And then he did read in Rainbow, and I was just like, man, this man is so talented. He loves children, he loves reading. He's promoting everything that I love

Yes. Reading rainbow. Thank you for this tribute and highlight because, oh, my goodness, we watched this in elementary school. I remember it being a part of the curriculum. We would do circle time. We would pause from circle time. We would be escorted to the bathroom. Then we would have the morning snack before lunch because it came on around that time time. And then they would play reading rainbow. And then we would do some related lesson based on that. You know what?

And I'm telling you, it made them voracious readers. It made them want to go to the library. And I enjoyed it. And I'm really, really proud of him and his accomplishments and everyone, every last person that edited that show, that did anything in that show to make it possible. I'm very, very grateful to them. So thank you so much for commenting. I really appreciate that

And now, now that I'm grown, my kids miss raining Rainbow but myself for the past four years. Yeah, it started during lockdown. I started listening to Lavar Burton reads his podcast for adults in which he reads short stories and then comments on them. It's not about the love of reading, it's just sharing his. He just reads and shares some of his favorite stories, mostly science fiction or fantasy. It's a fantastic podcast. I just love hearing his voice

Thank you so much. Thank you for coming out here and giving your tribute to learn Burton, because isn't he wonderful? He really, really is. He's led a very interesting life. And I've heard of his podcast, but I haven't listened to his podcast yet, so that just gives me more inspiration to listen to it. I am a Gen xer, so I grew up on Sesame street and electric company as well. But my kids, they grew up with Reading Rainbow
