IT’S BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH WEEK!

article image placeholderUploaded by @JOYFULLYYOURS
So I wanted to share a little bit about my heart health journey and my diabetes journey, because we are right in the throes of Black Maternal Health Week. That is significant. And this is a call to action to bring more awareness of the disparities that are happening amongst women of color. Black women face a greater risk of developing high blood pressure, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications during and after pregnancy

Hey, Deborah. I wanted to thank you for creating this post, for making the community aware of this and the life that you choose to live every day, in spite of any health barriers, you are using them as sort of torches to carry on a message and affect people and make impact. And your voice is heard. And I just invited some people here and I just want to thank you for having sort of that spirit that feels so fortified and it didn't come easy

Her birth was hard with them controlling the pain and a whole bunch of things. But this awareness is something that is much, much needed and I want to appreciate. And anybody that I come across that fits what you're looking for, I will gladly push them your way, have them to listen to your broadcast. So anything I can assist with, I will make sure to send them your way. Blessings and strength through this. Have a great day. My life. Blesses

So, yeah, I'm really glad that you came up with this, and I wish every woman who is pregnant with a healthy pregnancy and you have people that are around you that care, your doctors, your nurses, everyone. I can say for me, the person that did my C section, dr. Osiris, this is at Stanford Hospital. She was a young black lady, and I told her, I don't want to be cut down the middle

And so when we come together in a community based effort to share and connect so that we can help one another, we can empower one another, encourage one another, uplift one another and motivate one another, that's what it's about. And living with health challenges can be very discouraging to a lot of people. It can feel like you're the only one. But we know that we live in a broken world

And again, I'm glad to bring some awareness about Black Maternal Health week. I'm looking forward to sharing some of the things that I will be doing in reference to some of the programs and the research that's being done. We'll be able to share and I'll find out what I can share and how I can go about sharing it as we go through some of the research that I'm working on with the Heart association. But this is very important and community is important

But we have to be mindful and we do have to have that advocate, as you spoke about, someone who is acting on our behalf, someone who genuinely cares about what's happening with us, that can help lead us and guide us to the right answers for our particular health needs. So thank you again, Khadija, for sharing your story. I'm glad you and your son are doing well, and I am definitely looking forward to more conversation with you, my dear
