The Spy Next Door

article image placeholderUploaded by @JimSanFrancisco
Hi, this is Jim Hurleigh in San Francisco. Spycraft and the Spy next Door we tend to think of James Bond when the subject of international espionage comes up flashbang pyrotechnics car chases, mysterious evil geniuses with dastardly plans to rule the world. But the reality of tradecraft is less glamorous. John le Carrey, a spy himself, captured the mundane nature of spying in smiley's people and Tinker tailor soldier spy. And 2022 has been a big year for espionage fails

And I'm sure on your podcast they'll cover this, how people who are delusional and rise to power, they just get worse because they're being protected from reality and they're making up their own stories. And this is probably a case of where it wasn't about information as much as it was about imagination and how he just grew these truths out of his own weird petri dish. And it wasn't even based in any kind of on the ground polling or anything that has any substance to it

Hi. Thanks for your comments on the spy show that I did with ALP Savinlasoi. We were talking about the manipulation of intelligence in Russia that really informed Putin's decision to invade Ukraine. Apparently, the competing intelligence agencies in Russia don't talk to each other, and each one of them was giving a different analysis to Putin as regards how the Russian army would be welcomed with open arms by the Ukrainians. And based on these conflicting intelligence reports, he went ahead and invaded Ukraine in February of this year
