Simply Talking

article image placeholderUploaded by @Jeremiah73
Hello, everyone. What I would like to talk about today and would love to get to hear some of your responses, if the topic interests you, is how we speak to one another. The reason I chose this topic make is quite frankly, I was invited to swell. The person who initiated this swell did so in a measured, reasonable and kind fashion. And it was about college and the relationship of a college degree and your work experience

I'm going to tag giving voice here because I spent past couple of years talking about this on giving voice, but always know anyone who's listening, if there's something that you really find aggressive and out of the terms of agreement in this community, you can always hit those three dots next to it and just hit a report

@Jeremiah73

Unfortunately, I will say that I find this very challenging for me personally, because it seems that because I have to do everything very consciously, there's no intuitive way of thinking and operating according to a different neurowiring. And so I have to consciously think about, okay, even though this is how my brain works, being autistic, audhd, and this is how I would communicate, that's not how this other person is going to receive it

Whether it's righteous or not to be married to one line of thinking, I'm having that problem. I'm discovering it now in my own faith. And it's like, whatever my Faith is, it's personal to me, and I'm not part of a religion. I'm part of my own personal faith with what I believe. And I don't want to convert anybody but my Faith and a lot of other faith

I understand that certain topics are. I don't know if triggering is the word to use here, but some topics are more intense than others. And sometimes the best situation there is to just move on, agree to disagree. But I think that, unfortunately, a lot of people just don't know how to stop, how to quit while they're ahead

He had asked a question, is it okay for something about, is it okay for somebody who doesn't identify as a specific gender to be in the male or female bathroom? Something like that. And when people responded, he was like, ew, that's gross. How could you say? It just was very hostile and intended to offend people more so than have a conversation
@theRev
Jeremiah, I'm responding because I absolutely love the tone of your voice, because, first of all, it gives me to think that you're a person without conflict. You nor controversy. And that's probably a misunderstanding about you. And I am not daring to even try to assume that your life has been without controversy, which is one of the reasons why I don't believe that we should disagree with each other. And again, that's a perspective

I think they're going on a journey to get to a place where they have better equilibrium. But in the meantime, I'm not one of those people to coddle people like that, because it always comes at a cost to people who are trying to be kind and reasonable. Because I know the exact person that you're talking about and the swell that you're talking about. Because I was in that swell

For me, it just seems like everybody's entrenched, like the gentleman in the podcast that I went to. And I feel like correcting folks via the social network, it might make you feel good, but I don't think it really has any impact on that individual

But, yeah, I just can't even begin to imagine how deeply into our psyche and your dna that this mistreatment of such a wonderful group of people has. Has affected, like, a cancer in our country. So I do very much appreciate it, your kind comment, and I wish you the very best. Thank you. Bye

You're a spiritual individual. I'm a spiritual individual. We have differing beliefs. I don't judge your lifestyle. I only say maybe you should change the way you're thinking. That is, the simple basics of my faith, is that I have something that people deny outright without even proper consideration, that they might be misguided. I can understand spiritual people that choose to believe something and don't put any thought into how it actually all works, because I think we've made it too complicated

You're bothering me every dad. Get out of here. You're bothering me. Let's be dads. Let's just be like, you know what, man? Figure it out on your own. I'm here for you when you mess up and you come back. That's how my grandfather was. I think that's the way every man should be to everyone. It doesn't have to be your son. It should be every interaction. Take it or leave it

Things happen to my children that I advocate for, and if I just said what I thought or just responded in the moment out of anger wouldn't go anywhere and it just would be bad for everyone all the way around. And I really understand your point. It really is not only what we say, but how we say it, because our words are very powerful and strength and a power to them. And I agree with you. There are ways of letting people know
@theRev

@TheMs.Leanne

Miss Leanne, I know you don't know me from Adam's house cat, but I was listening to your response here, where I have placed a response, and you've given me calls to reply to you. I have, of late, been called rude by more white women than I even have begun to count. Only that it has caused me to begin to think, how dare they have this running narrative calling my delivery of who I am in this nation rude. I didn't get it

You. Wow. You know, I had never even thought about that. Thank you for your reply to me. Yeah, you do bring up some interesting points. I guess we all. I don't know. I mean, we all have preconceived notions and feelings about things, but you've definitely given me some good food for thought, so I thank you for that. I am not all knowing by any means, not by a long shot
@theRev

@TheMs.Leanne

So even at times when people are always telling me, and I've heard a couple of people say it on here, it's not what you say, it's how you say it. I've got a lot of years of study. I study every day. People don't believe that. But I write a weekly column that's published. I study every day

Now, ladies, the reverend is speaking. Miss Leanne is a fantastic human being. She's one of the sweetest people. She's just like you. Both of you ladies are terrific. But, Rev, you are one of the most intimidating human beings. Not women. It's not african american. You're one of the most intimidating human beings I've ever, ever interacted with. And believe me, I only deferred to God in heaven on earth
@theRev

@RoosterCollins

And again, this is not. People keep talking about reporting folk. Why you got to report people to who when you had that little breakaway from swell? I heard all of that. But it's because you're rooted in debate, and I'm going to say that to you. You rooted in debate, and when it comes to debating, I don't care what nobody says. Somebody got to win and somebody got to lose. In dialogue, there's no losers
@theRev
But I want to say to you right here, Jeremiah, you have put a very it's thought provoking swell cast here, and I am glad to have been a part of this one. God bless. Bye

Some people got upset that I fought back of an idea that one person can't possibly ascertain what it's like to live in another person's shoes. And I agree with that. But I can come up with a general, overall, general ideas. I have. My opinions didn't say anything negative, really, about anybody. It was very positive for the country and the current state of chaos that we're in, both socially and politically, I think
@theRev

@RoosterCollins

And in all my years of ministry, I found that the dying portion of the earth are those who have no faith at all. And they can't hear this set narrative that we have in our faith, no matter what that faith might be. Many of them, and the term is curse like sailors. I've been able to reach a lot of them because I can just call on the words that they understand

I even thought that I would apologize to you, Jeremiah, for even putting this here. But I won't. I won't make an apology. Because even now, I haven't been able to quit thinking about how that message came this morning to identify why so many people are choosing to live their life. Why without a consciousness of God. God bless. Bye

But the faithless, let me tell you, my language affects them a lot more. And like you said, when you start using that, like, the language, people do put you in jail. Rev. People put me in jail for my language

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they? And which of you, by being anxious, can add a single hour to his lifespan? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin
@theRev

@RoosterCollins

Years and years and years, we weren't talking religion in public spaces. Years and years, we weren't talking politics in public spaces. And look what it's come to. Look what it's come to. So one of the things that I am glad about having sent you that message is that you have made contact with that cursing that has been handed down through the generations of your family
@theRev
And he gave me to understand that that's where God uses you. God uses you, where your brokenness is. But you got to find some wholeness for it. You really have to have some wholeness for it. And that's what Howard Thurman did. Howard Thurman is one of the greatest theologians in the history of America. When I served the church in New York City, St. John the divine, I took a youth group over to St. John Divine just to see the Howard Thurman listening room
