#TellYourStory | Courage - the poem

Some of the imagery, from childhood to wars to depression and sorrow and grief to old age, was really powerful and moving and even. She died in 1974. I'm not sure when this poem was written, but even in 2024 I can relate and understand what she was talking about. When I was young, I didn't like to be afraid of things, and I would make myself watch scary movies. I deliberately remember. I remembered deliberately. Let me get the words in order

Like, no, someone's going to come and kill me. And I thought that was so funny when you sort of alluded to, like, it's dangerous, blah, blah, blah. But the truth of the matter is it's usually just fine, but what goes on in our head is not great. And it takes courage to get that stuff out and to just settle into the joy and the solitude and the gift of all that
