Bye Felicia! Why are resignations a secret?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Her_Sisu
And of course, they got our input as part of the interview process, me and my peer, they have selected a candidate, and the candidate starts mid October, and they're going to have my current boss finished, like, that week before the new candidate starts, so that there was no overlap. They just wanted a clean start with fresh energy, fresh vibes, et cetera. Now, my boss fast forward again, has a meeting with me and my period yesterday

I wanted to add. The photo I have attached on this swell is a photo of me in my last role before I just started my current position. And I turned in my notice and I was able to to tell people it wasn't a secret. People celebrated me, traded contact information. We had a going away celebration for me, and it was just all good vibes. I can still reach out to those people today

But I really didn't sell anybody because I'm just like out of sight, out of mind, right? That's how they get jobs. Not all of them, but just depends on the people. But my mom always says not taboo. But you don't tell them because what happens is you could be the best work in the world. But their thing is, my mom was saying they'll be crypto going to get rid of you. That's what she used to always tell me

@Her_Sisu 🤔

So I guess I can kind of be sensitive as well, especially if it wasn't on good terms that the person is leaving the company and other people are aware of that they're leaving. But you know how it is

@Her_Sisu: the resignation riff…

And it's cringey for a lot of management folks out there and a lot of leadership folks out there, because you know it's coming and it's unspoken, right? There's no vocabulary that is universal for this kind of behavior. But I think that's part of it. I think part of it is sort of an HR strategy, and then part of it is privacy based

Not every work environment is a positive one, or all work relationships are positive ones. I knew for a fact that is the case sometimes. But there are some people that I do make a connection with, and I don't want to just disappear on them. I want to at least be able to verbalize, like, hey, I enjoyed working with you

Thank you for sharing your insight. I like how you said how you just like to leave quietly and not, you know, have folks all in the business about your departure. I get it and, like, these responses are helping me have just a different perspective

@lwatsonjr WOW 😳

Oh, my. I had no idea. I have never heard of the term resignation riff. I'm definitely going to look into that. And the way how it you explained it, it makes a whole lot of sense and I can respect that. Wow, that's interesting. I don't know. I'm like, this is the person I report to

Anyway, the only time, not even a resignation, something would be a secret if somebody got fired and the reason behind the firing, unless everybody knew or speculate. But I don't understand why it would be a secret, especially if it was done on good terms. Now, I can understand if somebody's going around bad mouthing and being upset and the higher is up because you know what? It's going to cause a ripple amongst your peers and they want to keep this on the low

But if everything has been on the up and up, why would you just disappear? I don't get it. Reverend LJ, on his post, he termed it the resignation rift and kind of described what that meant, what that looked like, different examples. So that was helpful, but I just really haven't seen that in healthcare

That is probably where you're going to hear more of a louder conversation about a resignation or someone moving out of a seat and moving into another. And that's probably one of the best ways not for you to wake up on Monday morning and find out that the CEO that you knew yesterday is no longer CEO. That happened at the last company I was at. And that is probably what set off the firestorm that made everybody believe that they couldn't trust the new company

And I'm thinking, this dude or this woman was just on a call yesterday or this morning giving us deliverables and mapping out a process or a project or a goal and gave no indication that they were leaving. They really seemed in it for the long haul. And now there's an email 2 hours later that they have resigned, effective immediately. Like, what really went down? What really went down?

Sometimes the Revolution needs to be televised!

This is a part of authenticity and it is being true to who you are. And it's saying that, hey, this was a good fit for me and it no longer is. And let those questions float in the air and let them lie where they may. And some people may reach out and others may not not. But I totally agree it should be televised

An example of that, I remember my brother straight out of college, walked right into a management position with a pretty big sized company and so he got the company credit card and he went from no money to pretty much very close to six figures. And so he wasn't managing his resources well and was using the credit card to fill in the gap. Well, his leader he reported to at the time was like, hey, look, I do it sometimes too. I'm cool with it
