What are your tips to building engagement on Swell and elsewhere?

article image placeholderEngagement
And funny enough, first tip is what gets me engagement. If it is a hard question for me to answer, then I know it's going to be an enticing question for others to ponder. That's one of my tips that I go by in terms of content. If it's too easy for me to answer, I don't think you'll make great content. It'll almost be as if I ask people a question that actually has a real answer, and it's only one finite answer

I think we all would love to know. #engagement #socialmedia

That being said, I think it's totally valid and reasonable and admirable to just post because you want to post regardless of how people will respond or engage with the content. I think that's entirely valid. I also think that if you want to make engaging content, then you should know your audience and know what your audience cares about. If a lot of your followers, for instance, love sports and politics, okay, they talk about that all the time, and that's what they post about

Connections bring conversation. @liora

As a content creator, I know of some people now who are making podcasts. They want the world to hear their podcasts, but they aren't really thinking worldly in terms of the stuff they're building and generating. It still has some kinks they need to iron out and nobody's ever going to have it perfect. But I think there can be a danger in wanting to be because some people will play the safeguard. They want everybody to listen to them

And that's fine with me. I'm only looking to kind of throw ideas around with people, talk about them. I'm not really looking for wide engagement. And I don't know if that's what you were talking about here. I'm just saying, like, for me, if one person engages the conversation, that's great. That's all I care about. So I don't think I have a formula. I don't know. It probably wasn't very helpful here

It all starts with one. @AverageJoe

And that's probably why you're one of the great here is because of that. And I want that message to be known to those that maybe are struggling. Maybe they are in their heads way too much, and they could benefit from just posting something, not overthinking it and diagrams and s***. Just posting it

Okay, so we'll put that in one bucket and then on the other side, you have literature. And I believe you said technology. See, this app makes you pay attention. You got to take notes, too. Sometimes if you really want to comment on something now, Interestingly enough, I personally feel and I don't mean any disrespect. Anybody who loves sports and appreciates sports and loves to talk about politics and all that

Whimsical question actually.., thanks @Wuandurful

And I love that, like the checking in with who you are and why you're doing what you're doing. And I love this conversation like this to me is deep engagement, and I feel better for it. Would it be better if there's a million people talking on this? I don't know. It's really interesting. Like what's quantity versus quality and what does engagement mean? And what are we looking for in that? And we're all so different

I mean, there are some people are just more charismatic than other. Some people have more energy than others. Some people have more content than others. There's just so many other factors. And then there's the interest factor. Is it a topic that people are interested in? And how much are you really putting in time and effort into this app and communicating with others? It's not an easy question to answer. Really. It's a complex network that goes into play

Everybody here is just well thought out. And it doesn't matter what their thing is, right. They just bring something to the table that you can sit back. And sometimes they'll throw out an idea and you think, wow, yeah. I didn't think about that like that before, and I think that's really valuable. And so I don't know that's my take on this platform. And I'm glad to see conversations like this

Amazing thoughts! @joedimeo , @DBPardes , @bookishpodcast and @AverageJoe

Thank you all for responding. Joe DeMille, Deborah Chennai and Average Joe, thank you for responding again. Average Joe. Yeah, I think you've all made great points. And Joe DeMillo, I thought that was interesting how you had mentioned sports and politics. I do think you can find nuance in those topics, but you have to be very responsible when you speak about those particular subjects

@Wuandurful Interesting topic and thoughts, I like!!

Hi there. I just stumbled upon your swell and really, really thought about your question and about your thoughts on this topic. I'm relatively new to the app, but I do a lot like podcasting and social media for a living. So I think often the problem is that people like to talk. So yeah, people like to talk. People like to share their ideas and visions, and sometimes the relevant question is okay. Is it important? What I share? Is it inspiring?

Thank you @SaskiaKaufhold

I mean, it is what it is. You had made a post, and I'm going to respond to your post on your original Swell. It's funny when I heard it at first I kind of dismissed you because I thought you were just like another marketer trying to talk about your marketing guru skills and how for 59 99, you can help somebody their career online. Not that that's bad, but that's just not my cup of tea. But you are talking about more stuff than that

@Wuandurful Thanks for the response! My thoughts on it :)

So I always wonder what other people think about the topics that I'm interested in. And I really like the discussion and the exchange. And I really think even if it's like one or two answers, you immediately get to know the people a little better. Like if someone comments on your post or something in writing, that's not the same. So I really like swell for this
