#TellYourStory | Nostalgia

article image placeholderUploaded by @DressingRoom8
Like, gosh, I wish so much that I could go back, but just like, I wish I could have appreciated even more just because that music was just, it was a special time, musically speaking. And yeah, nostalgia for me, today is all about. It was all about music. And I even dabbled in watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if those remember, before the tv series, the movie. Loved it. Today was all about the

I'm like, we're the ogs now. We the aunties and we the uncles. You see my name here? Dear Auntie Ange, I accept it. When my child is 27, I have to accept that I'm an auntie in the community, and I embrace it proudly. But, yeah, that nostalgia. Somebody's talking about the Tootsie roll, right? 90s music, tootsie roll, that song about to be 30 years old

Back then we were still using a lot of musicians in music, like true instruments and that type of thing, where now we can replace a lot of it with automation. We produce at our music school also, so it's a topic of interest all the time. But we're all around the same age. We're all born in the 1980s for the most part, at my office. So I definitely understand the nostalgia and just, I don't know if it happens for you

It's not like looking at a photograph that's just stuck inside that frame. It's something that could actually be experienced vibrationally again in this moment. It's quite something, actually. That's why music is so powerful, because it doesn't have to stay in a bottle all locked in a dark closet. It's available to us to go back to where we heard it, but also to bring it into our present experience. So beautiful. Thank you

You knew that every Tuesday at 08:00 you're running home to go watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Right. They don't really have that. So I kind of wonder what they're going to hold on to or if everything's just going to seem not as special because it's so accessible. But, yeah. Thank you for the trip down memory lane

Oh, yeah, the 90s was everything. Everything. And I totally agree with you in that we have to own it. Getting older is a privilege, and it's an honor. And it puts us in a wonderful position to not only be able to think and reflect on what we've experienced, what we appreciate, and then also take lessons learned to correct and or change or course alter it for the future, but then also to give that wisdom to the young people

@Lolabunny0925 Special moments 😁 #remember #backintheday #content #people

Like, yes, for me, I just generally live in a space of nostalgia, watch the same movies over and over again because I remember being that little girl watching that film all those years ago. And it just provides such comfort that modern day things just don't. And it makes me feel good. It makes me feel safe

And I feel like listening to an old song, listening to watching a movie, listening to a podcast, these are all moments that cause us to pause and reflect and to think and think about the life that we're living. Not just live the life, but to think about it, reflect upon it, and then appreciate more

You. I'm so glad to hear you say that. I am not the only one that does this, because I absolutely do watch movies from the past to just, like, comfort myself, feel like, okay, everything else has changed, everything's chaotic, but this thing just remains true for me. It was when I was little, after school, every day I'd watch the Little Mermaid, so I know the little mermaid inside out, maybe even backwards

It. You brought up such an important question, actually, in your swell, which is, what will modern day kids even find special? You know, because. Yeah, I totally agree with you. Agree with you, because we did have that shared experience of having to know that at a certain time, on a certain day, we had to be in a place in our homes, typically, to experience something, to watch a show

I let them rock with it. It's great for me because unfortunately, corporate environments are still very ageist. So there are certain projects that I probably wouldn't be on if they thought I was a little bit older. So, yeah, now I totally go through that. It's weird, though, because my body don't feel like that at all. There's days where I'm like, oh, I'll go out and run without stretching and my body says, the fuck you are

He has excellent tastes in everything, in music and food. He's just connoisseur of life, obviously, right? Pot, meat, kettle. But it's great because I play him all my disrespectful music, because I am that modern mom who I'm like, listen, I'm jamaican. My family's from Jamaica. I got to listen to my dance hall. I love me some regaton. Like, I listen to disrespectful music all day, all night long

Like, the body is a little bit different than where the mind sits with age, but it's all know, we work it out. Like you said, we just wait a minute, take a minute, stretch, do our thing before we go ahead and break something. And oh my goodness, you had my heart singing with the HBO reference. I currently do not pay for HBO and it kills me because, like, grew up with it

So just a thought. I think that's maybe why we just have less stress. And we grew up on Disney. Everything was beautiful. I know it's problematic to say now, but seriously, who didn't sing a whole new world? Who didn't sing beauty and the beast? Who wasn't watching these shows, pretending to be heroes and princesses or whatever?

So to your point, I live in New York, and they have this thing in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Museum that's called first Saturdays. Usually what they do, they have a dj that comes into the museum and plays all early 2000 hits. Because let's be real, those are the people who want to go to the museum. People that are older, millennials and a little bit older like everybody else. Else either doesn't have an interest or they don't like coming out at night

Because if there is things that you haven't done that your six year old self would be like, hey, come on, man, why can't we do this? Guess what? It's not over, right? Like, you have today, you have tomorrow, and hopefully as many more days as you can have in this life. So get ahead, right?

I guess it brings me to this place of just being happy with everything. I also love Halloween, just like you guys do. What's not to love about Halloween, though? Especially being an 80s kid? Remember that we came from a time when people wore plastic masks and, like, a draped over piece of cloth that had a printed outfit on it. We've come a long way with these costumes, especially now that cosplay is a thing

I think I read an original poem that I wrote and I've never been stopped speaking since then. And my life was pretty consistently the same up until I was 14. Just great people, I guess our generation is super hopeful and optimistic. I think a lot of us have the same kind of approach to life, right? We're not just going to let things be what they are. We have that desire to move past it, to evolve out of it

When I was 27, 26, all I wanted to do was hang out with friends, go travel, possibly meet a nice girl, and settle down, and I kind of did all that. Them, they don't have any aspirations for. They don't have the happily ever after in mind. I think we grew up with happily ever after in mind. We thought that, hey, these steps and these things will work out

It. You're not wrong. It's true. We did have a real belief in seeing things come to life. And things did. Things did work out. I don't know. You're right. That's the truth. And it's just sad to think that people don't feel that way. But there's, you know, just like there was a moment for us to experience all this newness, I just know that there's more newness to come

I think that there are certain things that I've learned culturally, being of jamaican culture that things that you can use for your skin, or certain types of fruits and vegetables you should eat if you're looking for a natural and more holistic way to heal things. And I'll take it. Whatever gets me to the finish line. That is as far as that finish line can get. And b, I will take it. But it's so cool that we share things in common

You, I would agree with you, but I actually would attribute my kind of never give up belief system and behavior behaviorism to probably more so, like, my culture and just what was in my mind as the expectation. But I don't know. I've never really thought about asking that from the perspective of my generation, like being an 86 baby. Was that a common thread or tapestry of my generation? I don't know. That's a really great question

It. That definitely does play a role in it. My mom was very much of the holistic approach so I do have a lot of habits that I've carried on since I was a kid for sure. So I'm sure that does play a huge role. Whatever I inherited, as far as whether it's genetics or just certain bits of knowledge that I've carried forward, I'm here for it. It's keeping me looking young and it's keeping my body moving

During the summer, we also did, like, book club, so I was trying to read as many books as I could. Our thing was we would pick an author, me and my mom, and we would read all of their works during the summer, which I guess to other people might sound like not fun, but I actually really enjoyed it at the time. But, yeah, there was a big focus on success. Right
