Uh Oh - Am I saying the right thing at the wrong time or the wrong thing at the wrong time?

So The New Yorker ran this very funny cartoon that was just sent to me by my fellow swell caster, Jasmine Stowell. And I want to share it here because it really makes me feel and G in a really great way. It's basically covering the fact that when we help people, sometimes it's the wrong thing to say at the wrong time or maybe the right thing to say, but at the wrong time

This is something that I am very admin on because it can be really frustrating sometimes when you continuously be like, please don't give me advice, just listen. Because it starts to become repetitive and repetitive from the same people. And then after a while you're just kind of like not sure if you want to say anything anymore. But yes, and I don't think people really realize this concept. Even therapists will say the same thing. Do not give unsolicited advice if no one asks you

Or it might be something like too, when I didn't get this job or this offer, this opportunity, my friends will say, oh, well, don't worry, you'll get something next time. Or maybe there's something better out there for you. And then I'll still feel sad and upset. It's not helping. I mean, even though I know my friends want to try and make me happy and they don't want to see me upset

I also think that it's better to be in the conversation than not, because I think that over, overthinking things to the point where you're frozen in, in the fear that you're going to say too much or not say the right thing to me, sort of doesn't allow for the serendipity of stumbling on something really beautiful that might really help somebody. So there's that cosmic agreement like humility is the driver here
