#TellYourStory: My Pet is a Person | When Fido Reads the News (and other stories of anthropomorphizing your animal)

And I chose this particular picture of a random dog that I found eating, because I used to have conferences sometimes in an office, and she would sit on one of the chairs at the conference table, and sometimes when we were having lunch, she would even partake in some of that. And just her sitting there, she looked just like a person

I guess I'll choose this one example of my cat, Bart. He really likes having choice, likes to have autonomy. So he's highly allergic to a number of ingredients in cat food. So trying to find a food that he can eat and will eat is a challenge when he is having mild allergies, when with his food, he will pull out his fur

@SeekingPlumb @DBPardes 1st pic -my cat, Moby on my chest. 2nd pic my dog Sylvie and her face that’s made for radio

And so I kind of leaned my head over a little bit to the right so she could see that it was me. And I could see her kind of cock her head a little bit, like her recognizing, oh, I know that person. But I was wondering what she was thinking. I began attributing all these thoughts to her head. She must be thinking, OOH, look at that. Dog. That's a good looking dog right there

You know, you both remind me of this idea of what thought is when it comes to our animals. You know, what's my cat thinking? What's my dog thinking? And then we sort of take that as an invitation to engage even in our minds I know what you're thinking

If you're watering it, for example, the song changes anyway. And it's not necessarily the same every time you water it. So when I think about the nuances of plant life and how the nutrients creating this different electrical impulses from either the water or the food or the sun or whatever, and I think about the body of a human being so much more complex, rubbing hands together and activating them

So Norman and I were in the city together for about two years before COVID hit, and then we embarked on an unexpected journey, to say the least, which involved spending time in the DC area, then at a cabin in Essence Park, Colorado, with my cousin and his dog, onto a sublet in my former college town of Boulder before landing here in LA in April of 2021. He's the most adaptable dog I've ever met

I can so relate to it. We have a semi paralyzed Indy and his sibling, Raju, and Aishu, with us. They're both rescues, and they are both such individual personalities. In fact, I tell Raju all the time that you're not a dog, you're just a human pretending to be a dog, because he's such unique personalities, even though he is paralyzed and we've got him on wheels. But he's so lively and full of life. Yeah
