New Twitter Policy: Follow the Science

article image placeholderUploaded by @daily
And by answering them and saying follow the science, I'm not sure what he truly means. What is the science? You're going to have people on each side of this debate agree in principle that they should follow the science with a different definition of that science. But as I dig into this tweet a little bit more, it seems to me like it is a cop out

What does this mean to you?

It was like some sort of a scandal where he had a baby with another woman that wasn't either his wife or his partner or whatever at the time, right? And there was something else going on in the news with his name. And so to talk about whatever that was, he said, you watch, they're going to come out and come after me for whatever it was he had said

The real shift is in moving away from the obligation towards public good

It is all about letting anybody say anything and give them the oxygen and the reach of the platform to say that, because then Twitter is no longer in the business of having to figure out the public good part of it. Right. And that change in policy I think is really unfortunate

@arish

It's a great conversation. Arish, I want to double down on what you said. And insofar as agreeing with the distinction that if it's something that is a detriment to public safety, we want some force to step in and that no longer exists

I feel like what Elon Musk is saying is do your own research. Take the time to put together the formula to create the equation that you need to get the answer to for yourself. Because I feel like we spend too much, we put too much trust inside of the media and the government as far as certain things they put out or project in our lives. As far as with the vaccine for the COVID we're not really 100% sure of what consists of those ingredients

And I don't know how it is that we got here. I'm guessing the media 24 hours media cycle has something to do with it, but people have deputized themselves like regular folks to go to YouTube University or Google University, and suddenly they've done their research right? And that is so insane to me. It is remarkably insane because there are literally institutions that dedicate themselves to research 24 7365 people that live and breathe research. They're called researchers, scientists

So it's not individual scientists saying this is what we believe to be true. It's the scientific community doing study after study after study after study in a particular area. And after you have this accumulation of data on a particular subject area, that data may lead scientists as a community to make a particular conclusion on that topic. And that's what we call scientific consensus
