Overcoming DV: what does it take?

I also had to define my personal values. I had to figure out what was important to me and then live according to those values. I also had to establish clear boundaries. By setting boundaries, I could be sure that I wasn't allowing the wrong influences in to push or guide me away from the decisions that were best for me. So back to everyone deserves to be treated better, right? I needed to learn that I deserved better

The things you listed are so clear and helpful. And that the thing I want to add is connecting with advocates and connecting to voices like yours and staying in community and having accountability buddies and having people witness your conviction to get out of that situation. And even if it takes a year. Wanting that community around you. Understanding the value of those advocates

My maturity level to handle this in my 20s is very different from how I handle it and discuss it in my 40s. But I am lucky that we do continue to talk about it. His relationship since he was 16 with his father is very sporadic and not consistent. But he saw him recently, and the things that he told me about his conversation, it was still the same behaviors

And yeah, again, thank you for your openness and your honesty and your vulnerability because I feel it's really important for everyone and anyone to speak up about this and say, like, hey, this happens to the people that you don't expect it to happen to. If it's happening to one in four people. Then that means that like one in four women. Then that means that likely some women that you know. It's happening to them
