And we're black. So it is the twilight of the Yusuf Salam exonerated five. Leave it up. Victory party. It's really hitting me now. Like, I was was that like, 1989? So I was like, what, eight, nine years old when that whole racial firestorm kicked into high gear? And a lot of people don't realize that this narrative, that racism only happens in the south and slavery only happens in the south. None of that is true

New York Minute

And and again, like, it's early, you know, and they said, so, you know, that it can fluctuate at any given time. There's tons of times that they've reported early precinct numbers. And then that person who's in the lead like, oh, no, as more precincts are counted, then the numbers change. But within a few minutes, maybe like 20 minutes, they said, Yusuf Salam is going to do a victory speech

NYC ISSUES

And we're black. So, yeah, I abruptly had to stop. There were so many frats on both sides of the street, and two of them were fighting, you know, and I just, I was like, oh, my goodness, like, I have to run. I don't want to be get hit by any car or bitten by a rat, but and they were burrowing

You know, reblacka this hits me in so many ways because I grew up in Chicago, and I grew up right off of 71st street in my neighborhood is Emmett Hill Drive. So I had to cross over Emmett Hill to get to grade school. And I remember being a child in Chicago and, ah, hearing about Mamie Till. And I just think of just like, all of the times

I mean, street reporting is something else and it takes grit and it takes humor and flexibility and bringing us back to the core of the story. Always so very happy you're here and really excited to grow this swell cast that you started to really help people see what it could be like to be on the street and doing the kind of work that captures what's going on. And our hearts feel differently in those moments than they do in reflection
