The Control Problem in General AI

article image placeholderUploaded by @bakedandawake
Fact, implementing or implanting the equivalent of mental illness into these things, into a system, a neural network that can, at a certain point, very soon, if not already, only be termed as being conscious and sentient. How can that fail to produce unexpected and dire outcomes? Do we imagine that an intelligence we created to be more competent than humans in any given field of study would not, at some point seek to reason its way past such existential puzzles?

A recent clip from Lex Fridman and Sam Harris on Fridman’s podcast inspired this particular thought in me.. #smokeindicadoshitanyway #bakedandawake

So my hope is that I don't anthropomorphize this robot and think that he's suffering or feeling boredom or repetition is going to make him crazy. So, no. Interesting. I don't think so. I love your mind, though. I love how you're making me think. So I'm going to think some more

Could they lead to problems with AI? Definitely, because I can't remember when it is exactly. I want to say it's 2034, but I don't know where I got that number from. When they think that AI is going to surpass human intelligence or human, let's say, processing. And at that point, then AI is going to be able to take it's already taking exponentially more data than humans can, processing it and spitting out results, right?

@DBPardes Thanks for your reply!

At a certain point here, very, very soon we're going to be dealing with bots, large language models, whatever we want to call them, that can simulate human speech, writing, emotion, artistic impulses, et cetera, even dissimulation to an extent that we can't easily differentiate. We can't call them out without a lot of work and maybe even then we're not sure if we're not sitting right in the same room with the being purporting to be interacting with us

@SeekingPlumb You found the secret topic!

We have guardrails in place that I don't think anybody will argue, don't contribute to don't cause contributing factors to people's struggles in life, whether it's full blown mental illness, general malaise, seasonal depression, whatever you want to call it, beyond we that we have that we all share. So thank you again. I'll let it rest with that for now. But I'm going to be talking about this topic more. I'm and I welcome your thoughts
