The Tyre Nichols Tragedy

article image placeholderUploaded by @awarsing
The fact that the five officers charged with Mr. Nichols murder are black has brought much needed attention to the problem that many black people have said is often overlooked. When police brutality cases involve white officers and black victims, problems of race and policing are rooted more in an ingrained police culture of aggression and dehumanization of black people than interpersonal racism. Activists and others argue that it is the system and the tactics that foster racism and violence, rather than specific racial identities of officers

Hey, thank you for sharing information on this. I have no idea about those stats on qualified immunity. Yeah, it's crazy and definitely a symbol of something rotten in the system, but yeah. Thank you so much for sharing the info again

@awarsing #tyrenichols next steps?

I guess we're all going to stay on top of how this moves forward. And I guess from my perspective, listening to you, what are you looking for next? As someone who's committed to telling the story of this from a subjective perspective, not objective, what are you hoping to see as a result of this? Bye

I constantly think of that show with Michael Chiklis, The Shield that was on FX years ago, and how they were these sort of bad boys within the police department that operated their own crew and really got to do whatever they want. I always think about that when these sorts of things happen, and I don't know, it's just surprising that there aren't more safeguards in place
