And that's why we all must be aware of our mental health issues and ask for help as and when needed. This is Ankata, your host today. And I'm going to invite to day a very special guest, archana Singhal. She is a counselor and family therapist. She helps in repair, restore and healing. She's also specialized in couple therapy

When we keep fixating on past or catastrophize future, it starts taking a toll on our mental health. What we can do to stop overthinking is the first step would be, I would say reframing. Most of the times, overthinking is equal to under. Acting taking action like taking action acts like pressure release walls for our thoughts. Action can be journal, talking to a therapist, exercising, doing breathe work, whatever works best for us. So I would say doing nothing usually makes us feel worse

Thank you so much Arjuna, for this wonderful reply. Next, what I want to ask is selfcare part of mental health? And what are the important point to be considered for the same?

@wellnessAnkita

So practicing self care routine in our daily or weekly routine is not only good for our mental health research shows, it also makes us more confident, productive and creative. So we experience more joy, make better decisions, build stronger relationships and communicate effectively

Well, I think overthinking helps a lot, actually, because a lot of planning can be done, a lot of analysis can be done without actually doing the thing. You know, they say that you have to think twice or think ten times before saying something or doing something. So I personally believe that overthinking helps and doing something or saying something without prior planning or prior analysis might be harmful. I'm not saying it will be, but it might be. So that is my take on that

Hello. Thank you, Archana for this lovely insight. The last thing that I want to ask you is lot of us, we are bad at handling rejections. So how can we deal with this in a better way? If you can just tell up some tips on mindfulness exercises that will help us in this process, it will be very helpful for our listeners

Because gut instinct about certain situations that we are facing, which we think are timothy and worrying about them, I guess that's fine. That's something every human being does. But people who overthink things, they might contort an entire situation into something else and then be anxious about it. So what can be the key? Differentiating factors?

@wellnessAnkita

Yeah. So no one likes rejection. There's just something uniquely hardcore about it. It doesn't have to be about the big stuff only like not getting into your dream college, not being able to crack SATS, or not getting asked out to a party by a fresh, even everyday situations can lead to feelings of rejection too. Like when people did not laugh at your joke, or your friends forgot to pick you up for the movie, et cetera

Please tell us how to deal with this, because I think this thing of body shaming, image shaming, fat shaming has becoming very, very common, which can put anybody into depression, feel bad about themselves, go through low self esteem, mood swings. So Ma'am, please guide us through this. Thank you

You don't have to keep sweating on the small stuff. To combine critical thinking with instinct is very important. And the most important step to take would be to set a decision timeline and take a break. Also, the more you allow yourself to think through a decision, the likelier you are to overanalyze it. So when it is time to problem solve something, set a deadline for making your final decision. So bigger decisions require more time

And while neither approach is foolproof, snap decisions leverage the implicit processing capacities of your mind and can disrupt those ruminations that you're continuously having. So take an action, set a deadline, take a break, take action on things you can control, let go of the things you can't. These are certain things. So certain ways to snap out of that loop. Don't sweat on the small stuff

Please place value on more important things such as character, strength of mind, kindness, humanity. Know that your sole purpose in life is not to look like dolls you grew up in. Okay? So please practice self acceptance and self love. Be mindful for what you are paying attention to. Limit the intake of content that promotes unrealism. Okay? Surround yourself with people who are inclusive of all body types. Please affirm do this affirmation every day. I am beautiful the way I am

Before that, suppose you say that it comes at the age of eight, probably before that, stepping into eight at the age of seven, say that they are in grade two. So we'll give a brief an awareness about that at least to recall all the unexpected things that might happen in the future. So I just need to know what is the age appropriate for this cause which will really help. Thank you so much. Ma'am, I listened to all your replies. It was really encouraging

Thank you for your reply. I still have some doubts in my mind, but let's see to each their own opinion, right? I did ask you about diversions and how good they are or not. So adding on to that question, how good is it to get diverted all the time? I have seen some people divert kids minds when they are crying or something, and they try to tell something else. And for a kid's mind, I still don't think it's right

So when we are in a problem solving mode our minds are actually joining dots to gain a new perspective, to come up with solutions, right? So to answer the other part, other question that you asked that when does overthinking start? So I would say overthinking usually starts with teenagers because of the so many changes that they are facing because of some unstable situations breakups, friendships ending, people losing trust, physiologically speaking, the body, brain, mind, they start to speed up

But there are few people who I really can't understand and it's really hard for me to get out of something which happened with me. So I don't know what to do, Ma'am. So I believe you and if you wish, can I talk to you personally, Ma'am? So I could talk to you detail? But this is one thing I wanted to ask you and I hope you help me with this. Thank you, ma'am

If you don't hear the message they are trying to send you, the child gets louder and louder until you do. So children look for empathy and understanding and if they don't get it, they keep trying and by telling them to stop or we send them a message that their feelings are not important. If we want our kids to regulate their emotions and to trust us with their problems and feelings then we cannot be dismissive of them when they try to do this

Apart from that, there was a quote which I read yesterday, and I relate to it a lot, that sometimes a single word by a person could be just a whole web series for an overthinker. Right? So how do we deal with it? I mean, overthinking something which personally drains a person as at least that's what I feel. And how can we deal with it? How can we deal with overthinking or this emotional drainage caused by overthinking?

So hi all day. For me, overthinking is a common thing. It happens with me sometimes. You know you have a simple task or something simple that you need to do, but you ever think so much because you try to be perfect, think that what you are doing is not perfect enough in sight of others. And the truth is you just do it to the best of your ability. Just do what you are required to do and you know what is best to do. Don't
