Demands for what are known as golden passports, which allow visa free travel in the European Union and the UK, have soared, in part due to us citizens who want a second passport. They use it as a hedge against geopolitical turmoil that, according to Bloomberg, the programs generate more than $550 million annually in the Caribbean and have granted citizenship to more than 88,000 people, including many who are from China, Russia, and Nigeria.
