The Juneteenth Flag

Black Americans, from former slaves to their living descendants, were and are free Americans too. Indeed, they are as American as any other American. And that irreversible status is now underscored by the Juneteenth color. But red, white and blue aren't the only colors that are associated with the holiday. There are some Juneteenth flags that are red, green and black. Some of those celebrations in which you see those flags were from a creation in 1920

In fact, over the weekend, I was flying my Juneteenth flag with the American flag. As is appropriate, they, of course, share the colors, and that is by design, because, as you shared in your piece, the Juneteenth flag is acknowledging that the formerly enslaved black folks are now Americans. And I flew those two together over the course of the weekend and thought that today, on June 10 itself, I would do an equally appropriate pairing of the Juneteenth flag and the Pan African flag
