It's the first time any CRISPR based treatment has been approved for human use in the United States. Another different gene therapy called LifeGena has also been greenlit. Jennifer Dudna, who won the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for Developing CRISPR, said recently that gene editing therapies will be affordable and accessible to all in the near future.
