The Flag Photo and Iwo Jima

article image placeholderUploaded by @Urbanlegends
Now, normally the pulitzer Prize board considers journalism which was published in the previous calendar year for its prizes but it made an exception for rosenthal's picture awarding it the 1945 prize for photography a little over two months after it had been taken. F a. resch, the ap's executive news photo editor submitted it and supplemented it with other photos by rosenthal taken on iwo jima. The submission was made on March 29 of 1945. The photography jury was just finishing its work and apparently did not consider it

It's also so interesting that there would be so much conflict around the authentication of the photo itself. I'm grateful for the video, for the photographer's sake to be able to certify that it was an actual live moment and that was just pure skill that created that lasting memory. But anyway, thank you so much again for sharing and as always, looking forward to the next one. Bye

Thanks again for your comments. They're always great, wonderful and very insightful. I'm sure you've probably seen this, but there is a movie specifically about the raising of the flag at Mount Survace and it is based on a book. It's called the flags of our fathers. And it's very interesting. It is very compelling. It is a fairly contemporary movie. I don't recall the actual year that it was produced, but I do remember seeing it, 2006
