What's the first book you're reading in 2023?

One of my favorite parts of the new year is it is a chance to review the books I read the previous year and to make new and exciting reading goals for the new year. So I wanted to ask everyone what is the first book going to be that you are going to read in 2023?

Hey, it's JL. Happy New Year. And I used to say, I am an avid reader. And then, I don't know, after I finished my master's degree in 2006, it just fell way off. I can probably between 2006 to January 3, 2023, count on both hands the number of books I've read. Oh, mind you, mind you. I did a doctorate degree. I started my doctorate degree

The first book I'll be reading in the new year is this one by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. And if you watch the Amy Coney Barrett hearings, senator Whitehouse took about 20 minutes to describe what he felt was the current state of the judicial branch of the United States government. Having a friend who has had a court case that is going before the Supreme Court this year and watching that flow through the appellate court system over the past five to seven years, I think it's even longer than that

The first book is going to be the Financial Independence Marathon unlock the Power of Your Money by Vinod N. But it's a friend, he's wrote this book and I want to support him. So he's like, oh, I will send you a copy. So his book is releasing on 9th January, and I got the a three or review copy, let's call it that. And so it came to me on ironically on the 31st

But she soon learns her expectations of excellent and excitement and riches come with serious drawbacks as she ends up fighting for her life in a mysterious alien planet. Now, these two books are great reads. Miley can play with them. So, so far is the writers just dragged on the stories a bit too long. Instead of just moving on, it's go through quite a few chapters to get some really good stuff. But that's typical of most writers

@Her_Sisu Becoming

I also just wanted to say I absolutely loved becoming. I thought it was so good. And I actually listened to the audiobook version, which Michelle Obama reads, and just wanted to say highly recommend the audio version for anyone who may be interested in adding it to their Toread list this year

And it had been recommended to me by a couple of people who knew that I was a survivor of gas lighting, domestic abuse. And the psychiatrist does a great job at explaining how our brain works, especially when we have dealt with trauma in the past, and not just emotionally with our brain, but also physically with our physical bodies and the impact of years of stress and trauma, what it does to our body, including obesity. So I thought it was a great read

This book was so instrumental, I think, in me beginning to be able to practice a little more self compassion, which is something that I think will be Forever Journey, which makes me think of another book that you might like. I believe it's just called self compassion. The author is Kristen Neff and I believe she's a psychologist and researcher. At the very least, I know she's a researcher and I found that book kind of a lovely companion
