Gen Z Wants Less Sex, More Platonic Relationships in TV and Movies

article image placeholderUploaded by @TheSimonShow
Hi, and welcome to my first swellcast of the Simon Show. I have a question for you. Have you wondered why we continue to see a very disturbing pattern of more gratuitous sex on our entertainment choices today? Well, at first I thought that maybe it's a sign that I'm getting a little more prudish as I get older, but that's not the case. It seems like I'm finding some common ground with generation people who were born between 1996 and 2014

I think it's Generation X, but noticed that there's a lot of toxic relationships and hop in the bed type of shows out there. So this is why my husband and I, we started watching more Korean dramas, particularly in the fantasy or mystery genres, because the most you'll see is kissing. But outside of that, there's so much action going on that it adds more depth and balance, and the conflict actually helps to develop individual characters and it shapes their motives

Gen Z, they want to see more like a friends type of situation where you just got this great community, this great support system, these people that you can lean on at any time that are there for you, that are cheering you on, they gravitate more to that. And I think it's because the loneliness epidemic has increased to a point where people are wondering, not to say that romance is a thing of the past

And it sounds like this is nitpicking, but it is, because it really dictates the sensibility at play. Because when we talk about stereotypes and we talk about sex, I believe Gen Z is being given a little bit too much leeway as a progressive group, because Gen Z is also one of the main proponents of cancel culture. They're not very intelligent when it comes to satire. They take jokes way more sensitive in nature than people of the past

It's definitely each one's individual's preference, but at the bare minimum, paying attention to this survey could be very effective in future marketing and future advertising of storylines and movies. It definitely seems like there's a lot to be had in the way of entertainment these days with all the strikes and delays of featured films. If you go back I can't remember, I saw a stat it might Harvey been 2025 years ago, it said

Great that you brought this up #genz #media #relationships

And some people are saying maybe because they're having trouble with it, they're antisocial, or perhaps it's a different landscape. But I think it ends up being to the fact that they're just not interested in looking for any of that. In fact, they're looking for something a little bit unique, a little different, and in this case, genuine connection, genuine friendship. And therefore that's why they want to see less of that and more of the Platonic type parts in media
