The Next Horizon: Entering a Post-Achievement Lifestyle

article image placeholderUploaded by @TheSimonShow
For years, I chased those classic markers of success, the career climb, the financial goals, the external validation. And then I realized those milestones didn't automatically bring lasting happiness. Today, I'd like to ponder about postachievement life. Yes, you can still be ambitious, but with your focus on deeper fulfillment. Buckle up, because this is a journey, not a destination. Let's get honest here. Many of us are wired for achievement

I think it's something we could all think about a little bit more, especially in a society that really puts a focus on external validation and these concrete named achievements versus kind of the way that we are as humans, which is flowing and changing and develop thing as time goes on. Never fixed. Yeah, this was cool to listen to. Thank you

It's postachievement lifestyle. This is exactly the space I am in at this point in my life. I have put in a lot of work to move away from the need for external validation. I mean, years of inner work, of finding my own flow, of understanding my authentic self. And I'm still, even in this moment now, working on how to express that authentic self and how to live a life in balance with ease and joy. That's exactly where I am

I think it was the 2012 Olympics where he won all those medals, and then he's celebrated, he's decorated, and then he comes home and it's like, now what? And I've learned that one way to kind of avoid that is to keep the highs from getting too high and, of course, keep the lows from getting too low. One last thing

In a world where the highest ranking is the double white belt, not the black belt, the art of not knowing, the art of having an instinctual ability to perform what you love to do, what happens? You're in a state of post achievement, a state of, I guess, perpetual flow, if that makes sense

Hi Simon. I really liked that last little podcast that you put out about retirement or the emptiness syndrome, depending on where you are in life. But as an older person, I guess I'm older. I'm a grandmother. As you age, each step is a different season, and each season has its wonderful things, but it also has its vulnerabilities, and it's kind of a process we go through in life. It's kind of like a garden being cultivated

Hi Kelly. First off, thank you so much for listening to the swellcast. I knew it would cause a few people to step back a little bit and take notice, which know which every podcast is designed to do. But it's always good to hear from people who are in middle age, tapping on middle age's door, maybe heading towards of the senior years I for 01:00 a.m. About to hit 60 here in July. So I'm thinking about a lot of things
