What Gen Z Will Lose If They Don't Have Friendships At Work

article image placeholderUploaded by @TheSimonShow
The rise of remote work has upended all of that. The less time we are in the office, the less time we have to form and cement the bonds of friendship. Now, that's true for all remote and hybrid workers, but the impact is being felt most strongly by people with the least time working. Gen Z, with a few experiences to draw from, young remote workers, increasingly don't even think of the office as a place to make friends

Being able to sit down with other people and understand their thought processes, to be able to understand their ideas and their goals, their vision, being able to sit down and create a plan together, to be able to work on projects together, those things are very important. And when your whole work history, or most of your work history has consisted of you working remotely, it is hard for you to see the office as a place where you can build those types of relationships. Everything is virtual now

Hey Tanya, thank you so much for the reply and also bringing your breadth of knowledge in this particular topic because I know we've talked in the past regarding your occupational situation where you're. I don't know if you're. I don't remember if you said you were a hybrid or you work remotely exclusively. But regardless, you know, you have some experience in this particular topic from various points of view

Hey Simon, thanks for introducing this topic. I find it really interesting, especially as someone who is Gen Z. And so this directly, I feel, applies to me and how I've been going about my life and kind of what I've been watching happen, especially among my peers. I highly agree that the workspace is becoming more and more detached. I don't necessarily think that's even because of remote work per se

I'm not diagnosed with autism, but there are characteristics that I do have that could be categorized as autistic, and one of them is the desire to have a quiet space. I'm not used to having that because of being a teacher. It's really not my chosen profession, but it happened to be a profession where there was a need for people to teach. And special education is definitely a field that's not as populated as you would imagine
