Age is Just a Number: Leading Teams with Experience

Value their opinions, even if you ultimately go a different direction. This isn't about passing the buck, it's about showing you know they're an asset. The goal here is to turn this team into a collaboration of talent, not a dictatorship takeover. Older employees don't want to be told what to do. They want to be part of the solution. Involve them in decision making. Ask for ideas to tackle challenges. Give them a voice. It shows you trust them. And guess what?

Managing A Multigenerational Teams Takes Empathy!

It's all about what the experience, the talent, and that's what the business industry is looking for most of all. And so what we have to learn how to do is know how to communicate and to build relationships with these individuals when they come in, because they are tech savvy, they are digitally literal generation, because some of the older generation doesn't know how to do a lot of things and everything is turning digital. They got robots out now

So, you know, so they have a lot to say. Yeah, they have a lot of, you know, technical experience, and they're embracing AI. To be honest with you, I'm kind of embracing AI more than I did before because I'm starting to understand it more

Equality vs. Seniority

You. Exactly. And that's more like what I was saying, because it's been so much, it's all about equality versus seniority in this world. It's so much separation in the world already. And the older generation are the ones that should be leading the younger generation to be the best that they can be by sharing the wisdom and the experiences that they went through so that the younger generation would not have to experience it. But yet people make their own choices

To lead people, in spite of wisdom and generations of experience, normally is due to speed and the rate of demand and the technologies that are required to meet that demand, as in, you look at how iPhones are made and how they are distributed, and you realize the frameworks for that did not exist

And I hate to finish it, but we have to work together, people. Point blank. Period. The wisdom must be transferred, in my opinion, in a way that's decipherable regardless of it. Meaning you lose the value of a position for the elderly and older people and for the younger. You should optimize and self perpetuate all of the positive innovations of those who are before you. Because why not?

Definitely really good food for thought. As someone who is over 40, I definitely appreciate this. It's really interesting because when I see the newer teachers, for example, come into the field, it's really interesting because they have the technical information down, but they don't have the experiences, they don't have the nuances, they don't have the soft skills
