The Life of an ED Special Education Teacher: Introduction

article image placeholderUploaded by @TheSimonShow
Now I don't know know if this program was special education related but it made me assess my own situation as an Ed teacher in special education. So full disclosure here. For 14 years I have worked as a special education teacher. My particular field of expertise is dealing with the emotional disturbed population. It's otherwise commonly known as Ed

And although, yes, the ed population has their own challenges, and, yes, they don't have the tools to always regulate their emotions. And so if they're angry or they're frustrated, yes, they might hit a staff member. But I'm telling you, this is what got me hooked in special education. I loved it. I love working with this population. I love being around this population. It was food for my soul. It still is

@TheMs.Leanne

Well, hello. Leanne Simon here. First off, thank you so much for listening to the swellcast. I was hoping to get some teachers or others who have been in a classroom listening to this. I know that we in special education are more likely to hear stories from the autism programs rather than the Ed programs. And so there seems to be a void there that I'm trying to fill or I'm attempting to fill with the amount of experience that I have almost exclusively in these classrooms

And no pressure on the iterations, just let it flow. I can only imagine it's going to be both easy and challenging to present and chat about. So I'm all yours. Like I said, and I'm looking forward to more of this from

Simon I'm so excited to hear more about this subject of the life of an ed special ed teacher. I work in special ed as well. I am an instructional assistant at a high school, and I love what I do. Absolutely love our community, and I am looking so forward to hearing anything you post about in this area. I think it can be beneficial to your listeners who maybe don't necessarily understand our community, our population

I've had some students knock the glasses off of me and slug at me, scratch my head, scratch the bottom of my legs, bite me, kick me and all that. Now it's a big turn off for most people working in special education, and that's why this particular place that I work at doesn't have a lot of people going to it. And a lot of it has to do with they don't understand the population itself and it doesn't happen to everybody
