CP- personnel experience and how we can help our students PART 1.

Certain ways it can affect you. It can affect your vision, your learning, your hearing, your speech. You can have epilepsy, you can have intellectual impairments. You can have learning disabilities. It depends how the damage happened to your brain and where it's located. Because what happens with cerebral palsy, the damage occurs to the fetus's developing brain during pregnancy, or it could happen to the baby during birth or even shortly after the birth

And just coming from someone who has cerebral palsy, I will tell you that it is better for us to be given the opportunity to try things. Even if it doesn't work out. Even if you think it's not going to work out. We would rather just be included and I guess considered as normal as possible, rather than automatically being excluded right up front. Because I think that's something that happens a lot. And that's not just for the teaching environment

Again, I've worked with this population for years and I know these things firsthand. However, I do not have cerebral palsy, but I can relate to people judging a book by its cover being a blonde haired woman there's that. Being learning disabled, but higher functioning learning disabled where people have told me, quote, you don't look learning disabled there's that. So I've had that a lot in my life as well. I'm definitely glad you're part of my community as well

I think he probably hasn't been officially diagnosed with a learning disability, but I do know that he does struggle with memory and his vision has been impacted. In fact, we were told that he probably will never be able to drive himself around because he probably wouldn't be able to pass the vision test to get a driver's license. So we are looking at some of these challenges and trying to figure out the solutions to help him transition into adulthood

@ShareYourStory Really love your thoughts and have connected so much with your story and with your two boys.

Hi, I wanted to say that I really appreciated your response to Leanne's Swell and our Inner and our interview and that I really related to your story about your sons who first off, who were adopted. I just wanted to say that I myself am also adopted, actually at the age of five and all. Also I want to say that I related to both of your sons struggles that they deal with with their CP

@Astroality Really appreciate your perspective and I greatly relate to so much of your story.

I want to say that I have always tried that similar philosophy of view myself, especially when I was in school, in class, like gym. I wasn't able to always participate in a lot of the same activities or do some of the same activities as the other kids but I would still always try to do the same things just with some modifications

Really glad we did this interview and it looks like it has been helping so many so far. So glad to see that.

Hey, Leanne, it's Nick. Just wanted to say so glad again that we got to do this interview yesterday. And I have really been blown away by the responses that I've been hearing here so far. Really enjoyed hearing a lot of people's stories that they've shared about either themselves having CP and what they've dealt with, and also hearing about relatives such as their so sons and daughters that have had CP. Some of these stories I have really been able

It sounds like you've done an incredible job with everything that life has dealt you, and I think that that's one of the best things about who we we are is that it taught us to see the world from a totally different set of eyes. It taught us to use our resources more effectively right. To realize exactly how much power we had, which is awesome. I'm all about empowerment. I'm all about support

@Astroality Thank You so much for your kind response and really appreciate your kind insight.

Hey, I just want to say thank you so much for your kind words and response. Yes, we do learn from our experiences and we do learn from having a different perspective and a different way of seeing the world in regards to having a condition like this, you. And yes, I would also say that I have been doing pretty well in all that life has dealt me, or at least I've tried to be, and I hope that you are as well too

You. Thank you so much for your lovely response. Share my story. I really can relate from your stories. Again, I don't have children of my own, but just from a lot of my years of experience, it really warmed my learn to hear you talking about your boys. It's amazing to me. I have dealt with parents from all walks of life and it's wonderful when I hear from parents who genuinely love and care about their children

It is always so great to hear your insight, Nick. I got to tell you, you know, it's really interesting to me how similar you and I are in many respects. I was also adopted. However, I was four days old. But it's interesting how that works. In my case, genetics versus your adoptive parents. For me, it was a little different. Don't get me wrong

@TheMs.Leanne You are most certainly welcome Leanne. Has been a pleasure to share my insight. And I have enjoyed speaking with the others.

And yes, I have also enjoyed participating in this Swell and speaking with some of your other members of your Swell family. They have all been very enlightening and I've enjoyed hearing their experiences and I'm also looking forward to our part two of this Swell and also even hearing your other stories of your other friends and students that have disabilities because we all have similarities in what we go through and they should all be told. Thank you again. Sending so much love
