Mass Shootings v. Gun Violence: They are not the same

article image placeholderUploaded by @The79thstreetkd
There's a structure to the type of violence that occurs and that's across the board. But specifically in Chicago, these are type of words are used to designate who are the victims, what are the components of the incident. And I've never heard mass shooting being used amongst black people and black victims. And I bring that up because now that we have this discussion about gun regulation, which we do greatly need. We need better gun control

#askswell Coming off of Juneteenth 2023 - unfortunately here in Chicago, we had violence. However media, is doing something odd with its coverage.

Part 2

This is how these things become a certain practice of culture, of violence. And that's why I say our gun violence issue amongst inner city folks, especially black and brown people, this is a different type of beast than a mass shooting. And I think when we're putting these two together, we're treading dangerous waters. Because now what we're going to have is a certain type of mindset and a certain type of political initiative that will respond and they'll try to throw money at the problem

Part 3

And I think that's a much more difficult conversation for people to have because it boils down to white supremacy. Mental illness entitlement a culture that has put one group on a pedestal who has gotten every single thing and they still feel the need to attack when they feel inconvenienced versus another group who has historically just been at the back of the line. And unfortunately, our government finding ways to put us at the back of a new line. So I don't know

But what's happening in both instances is a discussion and that's more valuable than anything that we could begin to discuss or any way we could begin to portray or to project our opinions. As long as we're discussing, then I think we are definitely in the right realm of progress. So lastly, all I want to do is just say that I support and respect your approach and opinion and perspective and I see exactly what you're speaking of with the difference between gun violence and mass shootings

Or even if I were to be targeted, nine times out of ten, that's based off of two things. It's based off of someone trying to get into a gang initiation, killings or mistaken identity. That's usually the only two ways you see someone being targeted that's not gang affiliated. It's usually based around those two constructs trying to get in the gang, trying to kill someone that is the wrong person. But it's an unfortunate event

I know personally experienced that you had law enforcement individuals who were undercover, that was among the march or the protests and actually started doing shootings. This is definitely an agenda that's being pushed right now. And I'm just telling you, man, it's been so long drawed out with these talks, talks, talks. But in all these talks, no solution, no way to deal with this and no one really should really address it at his root problem, at his root issue
