#thecheckin - Ep. 33: Tik Tok and New American Sensibilities

They never evolve with the times. Social media like TikTok has a lot of value to a public and to the public that continue to say, like, we need more information, we need to know what's going on. And as much as it has its problems, things like TikTok, it really is beneficial. There's a great deal of information and things that are going on in the Middle east that the news is not covering equally imbalanced both sides of history regarding both Israel

Tik Tok being in the political news again during an election year is a big deal. But, what do we need to do with social media apps moving forward?πŸ€”πŸ’

They did a great job. Clap, clap, clap. Of being able to infiltrate the whole entire world in regards to TikTok. And we are in it hook, line and sinker. But it is time to reconsider. What are we doing? And I'm glad that they're bringing it up now, because what if they'd have brought it up ten years from now and it was too late to do anything about it?

Anyway, what the TikTok autism thing really revealed to me is one how flawed the system is with respect to the stereotypes, how flawed the system is with respect to the assessment and the gatekeeping, and how that has impacted lives, like prior to knowing about myself. And I will admit, TikTok is where my journey started. People called me ditzy and stupid, airheaded. I had the personality of a paper bag. But there's been a massive metamorphosis. I now thrive rather than barely surviving

I also wanted to put out there that there are still many professionals that have some ridiculous ideas around autism. If you're married, you can't be autistic. If you have friends, you can't be autistic. If you earned a PhD or a degree of any kind, you can't be autistic. And all of those things are myths. There are so many autistics that have either found other ways of being able to accomplish these things or have found. Found

And that's my issue with social media because we can always counteract and say, but there's a lot of good and absolutely agree. But that type of content is the driving point of most of social media, whether it's from China, whether it's from the United States, whether it's TikTok, whether it's Instagram, those personalities thrive on it. And that's some of my issues with it

Like Richard Pryor, like George Carlin, like, God, I'm blanking out on his name. He passed away, like, not too long ago. He was a black comedian. But long story short, these men used to get in interviews, and they were hilarious, but they had a lot of ideologies

And TikTok and Instagram and platforms of this nature have several educated people that are very well depth in covering these things. And I think that's why the government is finally starting to step in. Because as we get older, there's going to be generations of people raising their kids with this new, thoughtful information. And when you have that, the traditions are going to die. And again, I think it's murky waters

And also not just fact checking, but maybe there's categories, because one category might be about information that you can fact check, while another category might be entertainment. And maybe anyone who comes in with a new account starts at a mid number of stars, three out of five or five out of ten. And then based on how you interact, those stars go up or down. And I wonder if something like that, without getting into any more of the details, could somehow work

There seems to be more international concern, and that's just a cultural issue we have. So I think dealing with that already from an independent source like TikTok, it probably would even get worse if it were regulated by an american big tech company

But when you think about it, if the effort is built on change, so that way we can get to a point where we can look for jobs equal, the source of the change has to come from a 100% selfless idealism. It can't just come from a place where we're going to make social change. But I'm also going to make 34 million because I founded this. That's why art has become such a

I think that Elon is a person who has so much money and connections that he can influence the broader message in any way he wants, whether we're talking the media, or whether we're talking like Twitter. He can put his own words out there, knowing other pieces of information that aren't broadly known, or he can have things removed from, so that if you do searching, you can't find it unless you actually get on the ground and go to those places

But the idea that we've had numerous narratives that always center around a politician that kicks off World War three and his assassination, or this person of influence, a congressman, a senator, all these people, they generally are the focus of conversations, that usually are the reasoning behind our absence of progress. Why our activism doesn't know J. Edgar Hoover is usually attributed, and has been proven to be correct of why the Black Panthers no longer exist today, except as a piece of history

And one thing we try to get caught up in is like, we try to think we outgrew these things because suddenly the physical stores, the brick and mortar stores, are barren landscapes of what they used to be in terms of shopping and everything. And it's not because we grew up and knew these things weren't good for us to be doing

But that's not where we're just, you know, listening to this whole thing. I'm thinking, one, why is it that? Because it's obvious to me that these are people like the Congress people were commanded to do this by interested parties because TikTok is taking away a lot of money from them. I originally thought it was about the free speech thing, but it's also like when I saw the numbers that came out about the. It is
