#antebellumfilmschool: Special Ep. - State of Media, Tyler Perry and Creative Bankruptcy

I also did the conversation about the need for a black film list, because whenever we have these conversations, these are in depth discussions that usually drive home a certain type of narrative that usually begins a spark for something new. It leads us down a new path where we start to see things develop. It's happened throughout history

#perspective #dailyswell A conversation on media, audiences and problematic genius of the Tyler Perry production model.

If that's going to be existent, will they even be necessary also with media today? Because I'm a gen xer with media today, I see there's not much fun in it. I'll say that back in the day when we used to go see a movie, it was hilarious through and through. Or if it was a murder mystery, it was mystery and suspense all the way through. If it was a comedy love story, et cetera, it was directed just toward that

Too much information and not enough entertainment

Like you said, meta is trying to get involved in every aspect of our life to monetize what we do and not necessarily let us choose, let it choose for you. So there's a loss of imagination and a real loss of kind of being a film goer. You're just kind of like this person that's being said something, and you have to get away from that

But I think if we're talking a film criticism standpoint, he offers not only no variety, but he offers little to no understanding of the dynamics of storytelling. And it's really kind of sad, because the way he writes women and the way he writes black people, I've never sat down with a Tyler Perry film. And even as a form of exaggeration, I've never felt entertained by anything that he's done in a way where I can go revisit and say, you know what?

I don't like to see black men taking advantage of like that. And he just continues to allow himself to be taken advantage of like that by his own self, which says something about him to begin with. But, yeah, there are a lot of other brilliant black filmmakers, yourself included. And I can't wait to see what happens next. But I do worry about AI

And I agree with you 100%. I am concerned, too, because what it says a lot about our media, when AI could be used to take the likeness of a person and make money off of it, it's not taking it serious. And I think this is a bigger issue than we'd like to let on, especially considering we still haven't solved most of our human issues when it comes to art and media and civil rights in general

Know, when I think about meta and I think about Facebook and I think about all the pictures, the videos and stuff that I have on there, do I truly own that? I think somewhere along the line we signed something indicating that we could put it up on Facebook, and they may have potentially gotten a claim to be able to use that. And I hope not

If I look through the credits or if I know ahead of time there's a full AI production, this is actually why I personally, I'm boycotting Tyler Perry as an entity completely now, because he was about to spend $800 million on production studios and hiring people, and it stopped all that in favor of investing more in AI. And I'm like, if you're going to, you've made enough money. I know you as an entity has made them enough money

You learn something new every day. I had no idea that Tyler Perry was investing money into AI. I'm kind of shocked by that, but not shocked at the same time

@LadyFi

I think from now, after learning about all this, especially with all the headaches and getting into the business of working with other businesses and individuals and how to handle it, you have to be able to draw these contracts up, you have to be able to understand what copywriting is, you have to be able to understand what trademarks is. And honestly, if a person is willing to pay you and they like what your work is, you need to talk in advance before anything gets off the ground
