Is the rule of law still important?

article image placeholderUploaded by @RantrumRadio
I've had family members and close friends who have found themselves in some heavy legal trouble, both indicted as swell, as convicted, having to serve time in some way or have a penalty or punishment pressed on them that they have to carry out. And I guess the question is is the rule of law still important? And the reason why I ask that is because we know in many cases, public or otherwise, opinion can be influencing

The rule of law is important but unfortunately it only applys to people that don’t have enough money for the lawyers

And I want to say I'm trying to remember what they called the bimbo squad. Go look up the bimbo squad, which Hillary was the head of. She was part of paying off all these women that he was sleeping with if they tried to come back and sue. And I don't even know if Stormy Daniels is trying to sue. I'm very confused on why he's getting arrested because he paid off a p*** star. Is that illegal? I don't know

And in Theo case of Bill Clinton, whether you agree with it or not, he settled the case very openly and it was done, for all intents and purposes, legally. In the case of Donald Trump, his was under the table. It was definitely done in a way or allegedly we'll go with that because it's still an ongoing case and I'll give it that much. The law needs to have its due diligence go through its processes

It seems to be getting a little bit worse over the past couple of years too. But I think that's important to have in there because of what I've seen. I've seen some insidious remarks and really unbelievable defenses. And my friend, who is the whistleblower in this case actually has the backing and Charles Grassley actually has filed an amicus brief on his behalf and saying to the judges, hey, I wrote the law. You guys got this wrong. You got this wrong in the appellate courts

@Phil court of public opinion should matter

And I don't know, because you would think the court of public opinion would destroy the sacklers. There would be nothing left for the sack. I don't understand. If you or I did that, we wouldn't even have made it out of the front door. Theo wouldn't have allowed it. And I do want to shout back to Theo as far as the 30 felony thing, yes, Washington State does not I mean, they're similar to Portland

So my brain has gone on a hiatus. I just realized I've been awake for more than 24 hours. So I put a link here that I saw recently about this topic or tangential or parallel to the topic about laws, but from a slightly different angle that you might find interesting. I will attempt to revisit this on tomorrow

And then when we zoom out on this from a cultural view, you start to see how different socioeconomic statuses, different skin colors, different, like, whatever it might be, affects how these things play out, let alone our emotions. And whether it's someone we know or not, whether we feel like is the punishment about the crime really about a punishment for the person or an attempt to discourage them from doing these sorts of behaviors? Or is it retribution? Is it revenge?

@SeekingPlumb there is grey area. But not enough punishment for Heinous crimes.

So if you don't, there's so many aspects to it, but you've got to lay down the law. Like, there has to be punishments for these crimes, for whatever they are. You get pulled over with 30 felonies, you better not be doing anything illegal, is all I'm saying
@SeekingPlumb

@FateSlicer815

I don't know that it's that simple that, you know, universal punishment would change things. I think that like you pointed out and the video does as well, the shades of gray. There are shades of gray in so many different facets of this conversation, whether we're talking types of law, types of enforcement, who gets punished and who doesn't, let alone when someone does a crime and when they don't

And even beyond proof, they're still very much naysayers, or they might see it as circumstantial, or they may not know the ins and outs. And I think what a lot of cases, especially now more than ever, I think that might be actually a good thing to keep the concept of law and the concept of what's perceived in cases separate. I think a perfect example is Johnny Depp and Amber heard that whole shebang, that circus, if you will
