Missing Pets While at College

So I wanted to know if anyone else feels this. And if you do, how do you cope with that? How do you cope with missing your dog or your cat or anything other kind of pet you might have? And also, if you have a pet on campus, I'd like to hear your experiences with that

So I fortunately commute to my school. I'm able to live at home and also commute. I'm with my animals all the time. But I totally feel you on this because I have a cat and a dog and I'll try to go on FaceTime sometimes with my dog when I'm away from home and she just has no idea, like she can hear my voice

Animals are lifesavers!

I'll also FaceTime my parents and have them show me my animals or I don't know about you, but I have a couple of friends at school that they have a few animals. So whenever I'm feeling really sad, I just text them like, hey, can I come over? I'm feeling sad. I want to hang out, like with Chauncey, whatever. And so then I'll usually go hang out, hang out with some of my friends or something like that

Whenever I'm on the phone with my mom, she'll hear my voice and she'll start barking, and she'll always run to the door, and I'm like, no, baby, I'm just on the phone. But, yeah, it's hard

Okay. That is so true. I don't know anyone who has animals on campus. Like, I know that there are animals on my campus, but I'm just not friends with anyone who has animals. But during five finals time, we usually have dogs come and visit, like, on campus, and we get to pet them and stuff. So that was super therapeutic for me last semester, especially because last semester was my first semester away from home

I love that you posted this, because this has genuinely probably been one of the hardest struggles that I've dealt with being at College was not being with my dog. And I don't know, they definitely really are emotional, support little beings. And I think that not being around them and seeing them has definitely taken a toll on a lot of College students mental health, because a lot of people rely on their animals for certain things. And yeah

Yeah, I agree. Sometimes I even feel like I miss my pets even more than my family, which is kind of a rude thing to say. But sometimes it's true. My pets are my two dogs are so cute and I miss them. One of them is kind of old. It just had surgery. I'm going to see her soon, but it sucks. I don't get to see them every day. And yes, I feel like I miss them more than real person

I also miss my pets a lot. While I'm in College, I have two dogs, a Pug and a Greyhound. And it's really funny because whenever I'm FaceTiming my family members and I see them on the screen, I always try to call for them even though they can't hear or me, but I just seeing them on FaceTime helps. And now I'm home visiting them, which is nice

Isabella, I'm so glad you can relate and I'm not the only one who's just like crying while looking at pictures and videos of my dog because yeah, they really are part of the family and being without them is so hard. And like I said, you can talk to your family, you can FaceTime your family. But I know my dog really doesn't understand FaceTime or the phone

It would make me so sad not to say that you can't have an animal on campus, because I'm sure people have animals on campus and they give them wonderful, fulfilling, amazing life. I, unfortunately, am just extremely busy, and I have a very small space, so I just don't see it working out. But also, I think the rats I never even thought about having a rat on campus, but that makes so much sense

I can totally relate because I feel like with pets, you don't get into disagreements with them. You don't get into arguments with them. They don't really stress you out like parents or family members sometimes do. Pets are just always that calming presence. So, yeah, sometimes when I'm really stressed with school, all I want is just my pet next to me and to be able to pet her and rub her little belly

Yes, I'm definitely looking forward to my spring break. It's been like two and a half weeks or something. And so I'm going to go home and I'm going to see my dog. And I'm so excited for that. I know she's going to be so excited, excited. And also I'm really happy because I have a few classmates I was speaking to about how much I miss my dog
