#SwellQuiz - Can you guess the film by listening to a bit of it’s score?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Taylor
And just to be clear, these are not necessarily the main themes for the films in question. So, for example, don't expect me to play Darth Vader's theme way too easy. The only info that I will give you is the year that the film was released. Other than that, you're on your own. Have fun. Let's get this show on the road

Have fun - and remember don’t cheat! No Shazam allowed 🤣 #movies #askswell

You've stumped me with this one, Taylor. I was thinking it's John Williams or James Horner, but I looking at their filmographies. I don't think it's I don't I can't I can't pick it out

Oh, my God. I think you've stumped me as well. It's like at the tip of my tongue I could feel it just lighting up my cerebellum my Amygdala is just going crazy, as though I know this I have some kind of emotional connection but I've listened to it a few times and I just can't put my finger on what the movie is

Hey, guys, thanks for contributing. And, yeah, this is a little bit of a tricky one, mostly because and this is in no way a criticism of the composer, but I feel like sometimes some of the scores that he does can feel similar to one another at times. He has a system, if you will, an equation that really works for him and he's stuck to it basically his entire career

Question 2

This film was released in 2010
@SeekingPlumb

@Taylor

Okay. Taylor this is driving me nuts. So I am terrible when it comes to who does a song, the name of a song, lyrics of a song, anything like that. But I do have a playlist I listen to on a regular basis, full of cinematic scores, often of movies I've never seen before, never recognizable pieces. And this song, if I've replied to the right one, is in that list. I hear it over and over and over again

@SeekingPlumb SPOILERS/BIG HINT

And maybe something will come to you. Maybe somebody else will jump in. Who knows what will happen? But the composer of this particular song is none other than the great Hans Zimmer
@SeekingPlumb

@Taylor (Thank you!)

I figured it out. But believe it or not, I've never seen this movie. I keep thinking about it. I just have never got there
@Tim

@Taylor

You. Okay, I do know this one because I've got this track in heavy rotation on my daily playlist. Well, not daily, but I'm listening to it a lot. I'm I'm afraid of leaving the answer here because then people scrolling by are going to be able to see it as the AI transcribes my text response. So I'm just going to say I know the answer to this one, but I'm not going to say the answer here

@Taylor

You. Alright, I'm gonna be honest. I have no idea what this film is. But I'm guessing from the score that it's an animated film. And I'm guessing Disney. So now we've got to go look up and see what animated films Disney released back then

@Taylor

You. Okay, I know this one, and I'll mention it's. Danny Elfman score. I'm not gonna name the movie yet, but isn't this the first track? It's not the opening credits, but it's the first scene. Love this one. It's a classic

Question 5

This film was released in 1997

@Taylor Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler!!!!!

Ah. First off, I love soundtracks. And usually if I don't completely recognize a soundtrack, sometimes I can recognize the artist. And that sometimes is because I haven't seen the movies, TV heard the soundtrack. But it's really weird how if you listen to enough soundtracks, you can hear somebody's work in the soundtrack. So the first one, and I'm probably wrong on this, but my initial thought was, it sounds very much like Et. It is a John Williams score

@FateSlicer815

That is one that I mean, it's such an iconic movie, but so much of that old Disney music does sound kind of samey at times and I thought that that would maybe trip up some folks, but you nailed it. Titanic, correct again. James Horner, what a magnificent composer. Bonus points if you can actually name the scene that that track is playing. It's a scene that left a very strong impact on me and then the other two

@Taylor i have not seen the 2 movies i had questions on.

I literally have looked at that on the streaming service and been like, man, I really need to watch that because I'm sure it's a good movie, I just have never seen it
@Taylor

@FateSlicer815

Not just ones released in the 40s, but ones that I grew up with in the 90s that are incredibly famous. But for whatever reason, whether it's accessibility or other things, it just doesn't seem to happen anymore. And I do sort of think that that is the case with the Steven Spielberg film that we've been talking about here. Like I said, released in 1991, but at the time of release, the film didn't do very well

Great swell!

Hey, Taylor. Great idea for a swell. I'm actually a massive movie soundtrack fan, so I have all of them. I got all of them. I'm pretty sure, except for the 1991 one. I know who's doing it, but I looked up the year of the movie, and it doesn't look like it's the same year. But I know the Artist and then the other one, which I pretty sure I know

How about you reply to my swell here? And then in the description, just in all caps, write spoilers. And then maybe if someone hasn't quite guessed all of them and wants to participate, they can still do that. And then I can go over your answers with you. Anyways, talk to you soon

Hey, I definitely know the answer to this. I don't want to ruin it for anybody else, so I will talk for the first 20 seconds. This is my first time ever posting on this app, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. And I know you said to put spoilers, but I don't see anywhere that I can put that description hashtag links. I don't know. Seems like it's a pretty new app, so the interface is a little clunky

@SebShreds

But I don't know, my dad just kind of let me do whatever I wanted and my mom didn't watch those kinds of movies because she didn't love violence or what have you. But yeah, great job. Also, I'm sharing a photo here just so you can see, but when you leave a swell reply or you create your own swell, there's a description section and you can actually add hashtags there. You could tag people there, you can add links there
