Nietzsche decides to take on an experimental session with the doctor, saying, what if you could talk about your innermost fears? And by talking, maybe you can address some of the problems that you're facing? So it was experimental at the time, and how this evolved is what the story is all about. I think, as is the case always, that the book is better written than the movie. But if you haven't seen the movie, probably might want to search it on YouTube or someplace
