I Don’t Need Your Religion

article image placeholderUploaded by @Tamiek
Would my friend pick this argument with me while my father lied, dying? And the only thing I wanted to do was go spend his last moments with him, not start some theological argument about what's needed to get to heaven. My buddy is apostolic, and I love her like a big sister and a mentor. Over the years, in my search for God and struggle with sin, I've been church hopping and went to hers for a while

At the end of the service, the whole congregation goes to the altar, prays down on their knees, sobbing and crying out to God, some speaking in tongues. There I sat in my pew, trying to take it all in, figure it all out, and the pastor looked straight at me and started carrying on about how if you don't come up front of the altar, then you're resisting the Holy Ghost

He told you how it's in the book. The rules are simple to this game. And the thing is, Tammy, that you know the rules to the game, but your friend obviously doesn't know the rules to the game and for some reason chose that moment to criticize you and your dying father, who is smiling down and laughing from heaven because he sees that I'm talking to you and he's probably like, that's hilarious. That is hilarious

And thank you so much for sharing this well cast and your experience, your unfortunate experience with someone you consider close to you during your time of need. And that's really unfortunate that you had to be subjected to that. What's beautiful about it is that you've walked away from the experience with this reflection and are able to have others from around the world to chime in and be a voice of reason, support and encouragement to you. Many blessings

That speaks more powerful than just randomly attacking people with the gospel, and especially at a time of bereavement. And yes, all the legalism, all the dress down to your ankles and oh, my God. Yeah, the good thing about a lot of that stuff is a lot of people that adhere to that recently have been exposed for a lot of their shady dealings while dressed the part, right. While looking the part, but not acting the part. And I'm here for it

I had that one is more mainstream, called Church of God. I really did feel the tangible presence of God during worship there. And there was a lady who sat in the pew in front of me. I would get this feeling in the pit of my stomach, and then she'd start giving a message in tongues, and then someone else in the church would interpret what she said. I'd get that feeling often just before she started speaking in tongues

Thank you so much for your feedback, Ange. With Susie. I never understood why her denomination pushes proselyzing towards christians of other denominations. I've discovered that they don't believe anyone outside their denomination is saved, and that just borders a cult's belief. In my mind, it's like they turn their noses down toward people of other faiths and discount them as illegitimate. It's sad. That's what religion does. It sets impossible standards and reminds people of how inadequate and unworthy they are

In that instance, in that gathering of nations and people gathering in Jerusalem for the Pentecost, in the scripture, the Holy Spirit manifests itself as fire and a tongue of fire, and gives the apostles of Christ the ability to preach the message of Christ in a way that anyone can understand, ideally in this gathering of men and women and children to the temple in Jerusalem for Pentecost, for the day of Pentecost

You. Hey, good evening. Thanks for the invite. I want to say this like, you are who you are and God accepts you for who you are. You know, everyone's journey is their journey. And I really don't like it when people interfere and try to tell people what they should do. Like, you know, what you should do, you know, like, it's your journey, it's your life
